I have noticed that now the Salvation Army info is put right next to red cross infomation. They used to put only the red cross up.
well - the county will get some cash from FEMA; then the county can claim it's ruined an tear it down like they want to...
I heard that. It sort of makes one ashamed of what this country has created in some corners.
let'em stay..the food will spoil..the water will rise and they'll turn on each other.
It does make you think of escape from LA or New York. Fence off the area of the looters and let them fend for themselves.
Superdome - Currently, there are 20,000 at Superdome. 10,000 original and 10,000 rescued. Have been talking to Houston. Going to AstroDome, will be staging area.
Talked to White House - Bush will calling her soon. She has talked to WH folks. She has asked for all help for today.
Says they need to free up national guard for security. Asking military to help with evacuation.
Time is of the essense.
Handing off to others for details...
A professor from LSU said on WWL yesterday that the storm surge of 22 feet inundated the 17 foot sea wall.
He said the entirety of St. Bernard Parish was under 12 feet of water within two hours.
I am thinking that New Orleans needs to just take all of the ruined homes and buildings and make a landfill with them, until it is at least level, but preferably above sea level....
Then, rebuild the city...not until...it is stupid to put another city below sea level like this...just dumb
Updating hurricane / emergency supply list ... one box of shells is not enough.
yes................ this is horrible.
My local gas station already raised 40 cents last night.
Good, someone must have dropped in this morning and walked the runways.
Thanks. It's a fairly precarious and complicated system they have there.
FEMA bringing in military. Don't know how many troops are coming in.
There are 23,000 at SuperDome. They are figuring out how to get them from SuperDome to AstroDome. They have a plan to do it. Have some access issues due to water.
They will be using buses beginning this morning - buses on the way to SuperDome.
No end date on offer from Houston for AstroDome.
Can President Bush use the military? I thought there was a restriction on using them on U.S. soil - or are all bets off in a crisis of this magnitude?
Military spokesman says USS Bataan and associated landing craft are in operation in the evacuation
Convoys are enroute to Superdome to begin evacuation
We live in the San Francisco Bay area, and I think we may need to get a gun in case of a devastating earthquake here.
People were wonderful in the 1989 earthquake, but the more the damage the more desparate people will get.
If there isn't a way to get out of this place, it would be very difficult.
I've always thought I would get in the car and take the kids to my folks in Texas if there is a bad earthquake. May need to rethink the plan.
Thank you so much for posting that map.
Me too, but I'm a woman, so let them.
Evacuation by air of special needs and medical cases has been underway for a day, will continue
Evacuations will be completed using land, air, and sea assets
