Hey, my Foxnews channel went kabloowie sometime during the night. I'm getting network news channels but was wondering if Shep Smith is still reporting down on Bourbon St.

One thing I keep wondering is how many more of them are in those attics.

I think they are using FLIR to survey the rooftops for occupied attics.

At least I HOPE they're using it.

If they're NOT using it, they SHOULD be using it!

As I said up a bit, sometimes I am amazed by what I don't know. But at least I am smart enough to know I do not know.

Hope all is well and the llama and goat can sing Kum-Bah-Ya with the brother-in-law. Whoops, that would make them dems, never mind!

Millington and DC are scrambling on behalf of the Navy. From the www.news.navy.mil website:

Special Notice
Navy leadership is sincerely concerned for our Sailors and their family members in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. In light of the communication difficulties created by the hurricane, BUPERS has set up a 24 hour helpline for both Sailors and families to call for information regarding their loved ones.

The number is 1-877-414-5358

This line will be staffed 24 hours by active duty Navy volunteers and will have connectivity with Navy, FEMA and other government agencies. They will try their very best to answer questions regarding the status of Navy family members, but please be aware that communication in the region is still inconsistent.

PLEASE only call this if you are an affected Navy member or family member. This line is being run by some very stretched folks at Millington next to Memphis, and they are having to deal with the messes at Pascagoula and Gulfport ((the main East Coast Seabee base)), to say nothing of the support activities in the New Orleans area.

"I'm just scared that more people will die...."

Yes, unless people are removed from this area fast an onset of disease will begin.

I know his is harsh so please forgive if offended...but it needs to be said. Given the sewage, the dead (both animals and humans), and the lack of clean water to drink, we have another wave of disaster in the making.

Pray for theses people and donate as much as possible to a charity to assist in getting help to them.....it will take months, if not years, for that region to recover....

Heh heh

Bobby Jindal on Fox making sense. He has a greater grasp of the situation than any other politico.

I wish he were governor.

I gotta get ready for work at 645,,

He sure does, I heard that interview just now too. By contrast, the current govenor is on the WWL live feed, doing various morning show interviews. I get an absolutely enormous sense of incompetence. She appears on the verge of tears and seems emotionally frail. Not a strong leader, and this situation requires a STRONG, DECISIVE leader. She inspires no confidence, because she HAS no confidence.

"Alot was theory now its reality I just dont see how other govts with the unique circumstances esp dealing with geology and economics could have done much better..."

Actually, they may have been able to do better, but at what cost....like everything in life we have to balance the cost vs. the benefit...obvioulsy to have been better prepared would have cost LA and the city of NO a great deal of resources....in the end those resources were allocated elsewhere....in hindsight it now appears to be a mistake....but for all those years before it didn't look that way...

My bad, it was a three foot shark. It'll only eat half of you! :{

The thing that's most important is they get those people out of the dome. In 90 degree heat people are getting sick and germs are multiplying like it's a hot house. It IS a hothouse. An incubator for germs. They've GOT to be removed. The Mayor has declared a day of prayer.

THIS IS NO TIME FOR PRAYING UNLESS YOU CAN DO TWO THINGS AT ONCE. GET BUSY NOW...G*D KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED...GIVE THANKS LATER WHEN EVERYONE'S SAFE!

I just watched her on CNN. While the NO mayor at least sounds like he is trying to get something done (but either is incompetent or is not getting any help), the governor sounds like she is clueless.

40 years ago during Betsy, everyone talked about this possibility. 40 years ago.

Louisiana is full of good people who have been poorly served by government for as long as I have been alive.

Listening to Bobby Jindal makes it breathtakingly clear, the voters made the wrong choice. And the difference was made in New Orleans. A sad thing. But the people of NO were the ones who put Blanco and Landrieu in office.

Mike Foster would have managed this better. I feel sorry for the Gov, being a woman of a certain age I know I would be equally blithering and helpless, so I can empathise with her. But right now I long for a leader who might make me grumble but who would make me know the state was in good hands. I think Jindal would have been that kind of leader.

That said, this was an act of nature, terrible and predictable. The rest is really white noise. I still can't be reliably, consistently angry here. It is just too sad.

I can't say what I want to say, but anyone who's ever been to NO, or knows anything about NO, or has watched any news coverage of the looting, knows these scum.

My uncle was beaten and mugged by these same scum.

They need to start shooting on sight, culling the herd.

The gov takes special requests! The VP of CNN's parents are missing in NO and the gov chases them down!

I am in the distinct minority here because I like the Mayor. I think politics is involved between the Mayor and the democratic machine that run this state. I really do. He will say it soon enough if it is so.
