Western NY is just getting the front bands of Katrina (light rain right now). From my local radar, looks like Ohio and Illinois are getting pounded in heavy rain and T-storms. Man, she moved quickly.

Thoughts and prayers to everyone on the Gulf Coast!

Parts of Illinois and Indiana are experiencing such a horrific drought this year that they likely welcome the rain - no matter how much they get.

Their crops were already ruined but this rain gives them a new start for next year.

The only problem is whether the ground is too dry to accept a lot of rain and whether most of it will run off into the creeks, lakes and rivers of the area.

OTOH, those bodies of water are at very low levels too.
