oh, no grudges here, just trying to help. Then techinical repair talk is okay on this thread. Okay, putting in the "okay to talk about" column now. Thank you.
Per WWL, yes.
With his life in danger, I will go with the instinctual reaction. Most simple explanation.
In addition to Cajun Dome in Lafayette opening as shelter, Blackam Coliseum on Johnston St. will be opening as well. This is very good news for exhausted evacuees.
Still not a single word has come out of Slidell...
Relief agencies usually state quite specifically that they don't want items like clothes - they have to spend money to transport, organize and deliver those things.
Tamm. Parish is apparently a black hole for commo. Nobody knows for certain what's left in there.
This may just be a stopgap measure until they can get them all evac'd from the city. If the water level's increasing 11 inches per hour, there's a bit of time pressure involved...
For later...

It's been raining for a while, but nothing heavy yet.
Talking now on Fox about the possibility of evacuating NO because of health concerns.
Thank you so much for helping our citizens in dire need. It is greatly appreciated.
Reading these threads just gave me an idea. Instead of sending your money to a charity and not knowing how the money will be spent, how about this?
Why not directly "adopt" an evacuee family by offering to pay their motel bill and FedExing them an envelope containing a Wal-Mart gift card (remember, unlike the stores up North, the 24-hour SuperCenters here typically include a full-size supermarket, automotive center and gas station) and gift certificate booklets to McDonald's and Burger King (forget about Dunkin' Donuts -- last I heard, they only have one franchise in LA and it's in downtown New Orleans)?
Most of these people have been on the road much longer than they expected to, and have no idea when (or if) they'll ever return home. Their credit and debit cards will be maxed out quickly without direct financial assistance.
I'm sure there are officials in Rapides and Avoyelles Parishes who could point you to a "refugee" family with the greatest need.
Just my $0.02.
Thanks for slapping him for me Sink. Out of the 41 employees in our NOLA district office, we have only heard from 7, so far.
I am sure that the other 34 are just having problems contacting the company, but...
I am concerned about all my coworkers safety right now and secondarily how much this will affect our operations in the deep south. I have already had a couple of phone calls from people that need approval or contact with people in that office and I have not been able to tell them much.
They probably do. Would it go to the Katrina victims though?
My front yard is Galveston Bay, 12' above sea level. Strong cat 3 or better puts water on my property and in my house. No private insurance company will touch me.
Are the men seasick because of the roughness of the sea?
Agreed; but political and religious rants are better taken to other threads. Leave the live thread for news and education about what is going on and what can possibly be done and what we can do to help.
My two cents, fwiw.
Did you see the guy who lost his wife in the rushing water? Sad :( I'm all freeped out and my mind is overloaded. I'll check in later to make sure our freepers are okay.
