President Bush finally speaks from a long absence of silence on this subject, no mention of a guest amnesty program this time. But note he doesn’t say illegal immigration is problem but is it an issue (meaning it is an issue with greedy business donors and how to attract voters of an emerging demographic?).

He doesn’t say that state governments and the federal governments were failing to enforce our border, but he did say hundreds of thousands of people have been detained.

OK so if hundreds of thousands of people have been detained and most people who are paying the slightest attention to this subject have recognized that hundreds of thousands is just a fraction of those who got through and most of the detainees will eventually return, how could any body believe these remarks are anything less than a catastrophic failure by both the state and federal governments to enforce a real boarder?

Furthermore, why is it the staes the border Mexico, only those with democratic governors have called a state of emergency, the only two republican governors on the border, California and Texas have been ominously quite? And not to praise the democrats, either Arizona or New Mexico have not called out the National Guard, a necessary step for a state of emergency yet they the don’t feel a bit shy about accepting emergency funds to spend more money on failed policies.

President Bush unfurled a strong defense today of his belief in strict border enforcement...

Good. Then perhaps he'll start funding The Minutemen instead of referring to them as "vigilantes"??

Or is this just more hollow rhetoric?

It is time for the federal government to s*it or get off of the pot regarding the illegal immigrant issue.

This is more "tell them what they want to hear while we do what we want to do." Politicians from both parties are using illegals to conceal the depreciating value of the dollar due to too much borrowing/spending/printing by pandering politicians for the leeches they serve.

And I understand the solemn obligation of the state government and the federal government to enforce our border.

Considering what Israel and even Mexico do to "enforce" their own borders, would you admit that we, the lone Super Power and largest economy in the world, aren't doing all we can or could to enforce our own borders, Mr. President??

Mr. President, tear down the wall (between border patrol and local police). If the federal government isn't going to do the job, let the states have the authority to take care of the problem.

The border issue is one of the items which makes Bush merely a "good" president versus a great president. I don't understand why his policy is so weak. I just moved East due to the ongoing invasion.

And emphasizing efforts by the U.S. government, which he said may not have come to the attention of his audience, the president said that "hundreds of thousands of people have been detained, trying to illegally cross into Arizona."

And something which IS NOT lost on this audience, hundreds of thousands of Criminal Aliens have successfully crossed the border and invaded Arizona.

Mr. President, I love ya. But you really need to wake up on this one.

In 4-1/2 years, PresBush has done nothing to properly address the issue of immigration reform. Illegal aliens continue to cross the border and burden the taxpayers by straining a significant portion of our nations infrastructure. I have no confidence Bush or the GOP controlled Congress wants to tackle this issue. Bush wants Hispanic's to vote Republican, while the business community continues to get cheap labor. How pathetic. Bush gets an "F" for failure.

Take a cue from Israel on how to do it right Mr. President. Your talk is as cheap as our fence!

"I know what it means to have a long border with Mexico. And I understand the solemn obligation of the state government and the federal government to enforce our border."

Bush you doofus. Immigration is strictly a federal issue. When you were Governor of TX you didn't exactly call up the Xlinton Administration and ask them to defend the borders.

Go attend another fundraiser with your corporate buddies or something....you are totally myopic on this issue.

"I understand the solemn obligation of the state government and the federal government to enforce our border."

Does George really think he's been enforcing our border???

Hey, George! You can prove that you understand by

Arranging to return that man's ranch that the courts gave to the illegal aliens;

Slamming the door;

Stationing the military all along the border;

Protecting the lives, rights, and property of U.S. citizens living along the border;

Initiating a constitutional amendment making anyone born in the U.S. whose parents are not U.S. citizens no longer elegible for U.S. citizenship;

Initiating laws to deprive illegal immigrants social services, including education;

Removing all illegal immigrants from the welfare rolls;

Prosecuting anyone who knowingly hires an illegal alien;

Prosecuting any illegal alien who votes in the U.S. and anyone who aids such illegal voting;

Deporting all illegal aliens; and

ENFORCING THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES (as I recall, this is one of the responsibilities you accepted when you accepted the Presidency).

Once you've done that maybe the American people will begin to believe that you "understand the solemn obligation of the state government and the federal government to enforce our border."

I'm most disappointed with his stance on illegal immigration. Sadly, he's done little to make our borders any safer than on 9/11.
