Sad news tonight to report from the world of supply-side economics. Jude Wanniski, the man who coined the term "supply-side" while working for the Wall Street Journal, passed away as the result of a heart attack that he suffered earlier today. I only met the man a few times, but I am close friends with one of his sons who I got to know while working for Steve Forbes. My heart goes out to my friend and I want him to know that he and his family are in my family's thoughts and prayers.
Jude Wanniski, along with economist Arthur Laffer (of the Laffer Curve fame), shaped modern-day conservative economics and influenced leaders including Ronald Reagan, Jack Kemp and Steve Forbes. While he may be gone, his ideas and spirit will continue to guide principled conservatives for generations to come. You may have titled your touchstone book "The Way The World Works," but you lay claim to having helped change the world. For that, I salute and honor you. May God hold you in the hallow of His hand.

Jude was a good guy. Sorry to hear this.
His favorable opinions of Louis Farrakhan made me stop reading him after a while, though.
Rest in peace, Mr. Wanniski.
Very sad news, but thanks for letting us know. R.I.P.
I just found his last column that he published. It was on AlJazeera.net.
After Gaza: Sharon's victory? Sunday 28 August 2005, 15:23 Makka Time, 12:23 GMT
Well, he did have a Buchanan/Sobran/Reese bent to him.
Guess I'll have to take my marching orders from Lew Lehrman now.
Saddam is sad
Oh, how sad. Such an interesting thinker.
Sad to hear that a free market hero moved on.
We can all hope that he is now in a better place.
All to his credit.
If he was a nut, he was truly our nut.
I'd like to be remembered as so articulate.
RIP.
But, at the same time, may I ask, what does a "principled conservative" do writing for al Jazeera and praising Farakhan?
I think he was a great man, an American visionary whose work truly made the world a better place. His legacy includes lifting up the less fortunate in this country, and, increasingly, around the world. That's a lot for a man.
He will be missed.
Blow it out your poop chute. What was stated here is an empirical fact, not opinion. The man was as sound as sound could be on economics. His gladhanding Farrakhan was offputting. One would think that conservatives would have a real problem with that. But I guess not.
That's the unadulterated truth.
Sad news on the death of a staunch conservative.
He did raise the point that there is a level where government taxation is detrimental. The evidence over the last 25 years shows that the theory was right, it's just that the Laffer curve was too simplistically demonstrated (or too simplistically drawn on a chart for example.)
The evidence shows that low taxation economies have grown faster and there is clearly a point reached by high taxation economies where growth is stunted.
Good thing a few people took the theory seriously. It saved the US and quite a few other countries.
What a shame. He was required to learn about in my college economics classes along with Milton Friedman.
