"Exactly! When you build on the edge of the Gulf, you should not be allowed to rebuild IMHO. I really resent tax dollars going to help casino owners who put their casinos on the Gulf rebuild as well."

Natural disaster happen everywhere. Earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, forest fires. If people weren't allowed to build anywhere there might be a natural disaster, we wouldn't be allowed to build anywhere. Anyway, ports, beach resorts, and all that other stuff that has to be built near the ocean won't operate without people. Where do you expect them to live if they can't build houses?

I know for a fact they have encroached on land that used to be beaches and moved farther out just like they have in the canyons of CA where there is fire danger. People tend to go farther and farther into areas that shouldn't be developed.

Certain areas should be off limits like how far from the ocean/gulf you can build. Wouldn't hurt tourism but it could sure save tax dollars after a hurricane. I don't believe in building condo's on barrier islands either.
