"Move America Forward"; then Back Ten Steps - What was accomplished?...
theOneRepublic Jounal ^ | 8/29/05 | Eric Hogue

Now that the nation has experienced the "Battle of the Moms" in Crawford, Texas, what have the organizers of Move America Forward (California Congressional hopeful Howard Kaloogian) accomplished with this high priced media caravan?

What did they accomplish, other than boosting Cindy Sheehan's media attention when her saga was growing old and cold. The folks at Move'on and "Sheehan Tent and Awning" should send Move America Forward a donation check...nothing better than 'un-efforted' attention from the press. Just get the name spelled right.

Has MAF produced a desired result for the military, for the citizens of this country, or have the founders of MAF created another attention grabbing 'stunt' for their web site and future political campaigns?

What argument has MAF funded with this latest stunt?

What ideological core value has MAF offered America? That a majority of Americans are for the war against terrorism, and a little under half of the citizens are not? Didn't we know this already?

Over the weekend, I heard numerous anchors recite the same tag line after returning from a 'live report' from Crawford, Texas. The studio anchor, or 'anchorette', would simple say, "Emotions are running high on both sides". And they are right.

This latest stunt has done nothing but create emotions...[more]

I write a daily radio service and monitor the media for a living. This author couldn't be more wrong. The counter-demonstrations forced the MSM to finally stop genuflecting in front of St. Cindy. Without the noise from that pro-Bush crowd finally forcing them to grudgingly admit she didn't speak for all Americans, they would've continued raising her higher and higher on a pedestal until she collected her Nobel Peace Prize. Bank on it.

"President Bush said my son died in a noble cause, and I want to ask him what that noble cause is." Cindy Sheehan

Protecting and defending your country so you can take your sorry a$$ to Texas and denigrate his memory and belittle his heroism by protesting you stupind wench. That's what. Without men like your son, you wouldn't have the right to behave so abominably.

Who is Eric Hogue? Maybe the best response to his hysterics is to ignore him.

You can ignore her. But there are those of us who don't walk out of our doors every day and see the American flag flying in every yard. We only get the news the MSM wants us to get. There are those of us who need to see the faces and hear the voices of our supporters. It isn't good enough for us to imagine the majority of the people of the United States changing the channel when she comes on TV.

Those on the left believe in free speech so long as they are the only one's doing the talking. What the author of this piece is whining about is that the left was not doing the talking this weekend. When the left speaks=free speech and protest. When the right speeks=hate.

Welp, that logic isn't working anymore and I don't think it ever will again. We will not be cowed into silence by the notion that our speech and our right to protest is somehow less sacrosanct than those on the left.

I support Move America Forward. I think they could have gone elsewhere, DC or some other signficant place, rather than to Crawford, and not to play into the hands of Cindy and the MSM. If there's another way of dealing with hysterical people, let me know.

I tend to agree with the author of this piece, because the best way to undermine an hysteric is to totally ignore her.

Ignored is derived from IGNORANCE which is what your statement reflects if you think she was being ignored(no offense intended).

Good luck in drving them downward. The only weapon they have is publicity and the seditious MSM.

We tried to "ignore" them in the 60s and 70s thinking they would crawl back under their rocks, now my main objective is to DRIVE them under their rocks.

Never again.

Amen to that!! We underestimated them in the 60s and 70s and the result is a biased liberal Has Been Press and faculty in most of our high schools and colleges!

Never again!!

Cindy went to Crawford to launch a Democrat-Liberal agenda.

Patriots went to Crawford to send a loud message to the troops that we support them and believe in the mission.

Seems pretty straightforward to me....the caravan wouldn't have been necessary if but for the actions of the MSM who insisted on elevating Cindy Sheehan to the role of demigod and broadcasting those images worldwide.

I do not advocate silencing either Move America Forward or conservativism. I am a proud father of a son who is in Iraq (U.S. Army).

But, regarding Cindy: we should have demonstration of support for our troops and the USA, but not on Cindy's and the MSM's turf. Best way to take the steam out of a temper tantrum is to leave the room.

No. I think she should be ignored.

Ah ha, then we agree, although full exposure of what she says would also be quite effective.

I know Eric personally.

What he is trying to say in this piece is that all this caravan did was give more attention to Sheehan. He thinks that if there had been no caravan, the media would have not focused it's attention on Sheehan and the story would have died out.

I personally disagree with him on this issue, but I wanted you to understand where he is coming from.

"....with this high priced media caravan?"

I'm not sure this is a realistic statement (much less the whole article). It was my impression that this WAS a grassroots thing. Or did Karl Rove or Haliburton (or both?!) pay for the gas, hotels, food and supply organizers for all the various people coming from all the various places?

But seriously - can someone confirm that this was a grassroots thing? I imagine MoveAmerica Forward spent moey, etc. on logistics, but It doesn't seem like too much. In their thank you at FR they mentioned two gals that came in, set up, rented the community center (w/ A/C) for the day, set up banners, etc. - and that the two gals just sort of showed up. Seems that a "high-priced" media event would have at least thought to have arranged to rent out the Crawford community center (at what - $150 for the day?)
