You are doing a great job helping to create a very wonderful and educational thread here! You are helping to preserve history. It will help me teach my children about hurricanes and such (and I've learned a lot too!). Thanks so much - to everyone on the thread, too!!!

Prayers for everyone touched by Hurricane Katrina!

Just curious, I wonder about the nuke powerplant in Taft, LA which is in the storms path. I m surprized the Media hasn't glommed onto this.
For another hurricane link try www.hwn.org. Lower traffic than official govt. sites.

Morning, all.
I'll be here for an hour before I have to leave for work.
Shep checked in - he's okay, and he's definately still in the French Quarter.

Hiya. Shep's been saying that all the hype hasn't panned out. Sounds good but is this only because the worst hasn't reached him or has Katrina fallen apart?

I grew up in Florida, and I remember going through three or more hurricanes, luckily none of them direct hits on me.

I remember that my Mom was really scared of them, so we would go to a big hotel in downtown St Petersburg to ride them out.

I can remember seeing the plate glass windows in the lobby 'breathing' and stretching from the pressure, and seeing loose objects like metal trash cans, stop signs etc flying by.

Somehow our home escaped major damage each time. Of course the house was made of concrete and (real) stucco, with a heavy tile roof.

May God protect those people in NO and nearby regions who are unable to leave or are simply unaware of the magnitude of this thing. And thanks for the great threads!

I noticed that there is a sense of disappointement among some reporters that Katrina was not as bad as they wanted it to be, i.e., the worst storm ever to hit the United States.
