When Shep talks about persons on their roof to escape flooding, he's probably talking about the east/southeast section where the levee broke. It is the smallest of 3 separate areas of the city with their own levee systems creating 3 different bowls. So that flooding shouldn't affect where he's at downtown/French Quarter. With the winds from the north and west now, any major flooding (besides of course the rain) where he is at will come from Lake Pontchartrain's waters overtopping or breaching the level on the north or west.

"They dodged a bullet? Damage is extensive and the city is now flooding. Not sure he should be saying that. Geesh real stupid."

Compared to some of the speculation last night, they WERE lucky. I heard one guy predict 50,000 dead, CNN's Aaron Brown said we might "lose a city," and a CNN expert (a professor) said there was a 50/50 chance that the city would be virtually destroyed and flooded with toxic wastes. And almost everyone was predicting major flooding in 50-75% of the city. Maybe I'm wrong, but so far nothing that's actually happened seems anywhere near those scenarios.

When the news is overblown and exxagerated, I will point it out.

You don't friggin KNOW what is overblown. I'm watching several radar and sat maps - and the danger point for surge in NO was when the eyewall was due east of the city. The winds might have reduced, but there was still a lot of danger at that point.

So, once again, please either post some content or lurk.

Seriously?

I am WAY lost on this. From what I've heard/read about hurricanes - it takes a couple hours to pass. The radar shows the hurricane still in the area.

I've heard flooding to ceilings & rooftops in N.O., seen pics of structural collapse in N.O., heard a levee broke in N.O., it's still raining, still strong winds (per radar), and they're going home? I am very confused.
