Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

The mayor said the SuperDome can stand 200 mh winds.

Yes, but it was a gov't project managed by the city of New Orleans, right?

The news from the President on Iraq was very important to say the least. They have agreed on a Constitution that ensures that everyone is equal under the law regardless of race, religion, or gender. That's hugh and series. I'd say he had a pretty good audience to get the news out since it doesn't seem that it would have any other way since it's all Katrina all the time.

All I know is the pumps won't work if they're submerged.

Yeah, something like "the worst interview he ever did was with a guy describing how he was in the dark, in his attic with water up to his chin amongst the snakes."

Don't forget the fireants. Fireants rule the Southland and they will find a way to survive.

The building is built of reinforced concrete. It'll last. So will the people, provided they stay in the stands. It'll be one hell of a bumpy ride, but they'll survive.

And the Titanic was unsinkable

How about the pollution from the 50,000 dead bodies floating in the water?

...and gators...Louisiana is going to be one BIG swamp.

I know this sounds insignificant right now, but I'm thinking of all the plantations from Baton Rouge to NO. All that beauty. Gone. With the Wind.

It is. It has to be periodically repaired from all the bullet hole damage from falling bullets.

BTW, I'm in Hammond, LA, and a Doctor, so I can't leave, but watching this thing closely.

What?! People are going to hide in a Stadium???

It was eleventh hour. They had obviously never "war gamed" for the Big One.

The Superdome will quickly become a disaster area when the juice goes out.

What did he say? I'm getting really tired of not having Fox. I essentially get no television news.

Yes, they just mentioned locally that our local power companies are sending crews to help put the power back on once the hurricane subsides. Americans are good that way! :)
