Whenever anyone says Pontchartrain, I think of that bus careening off ....I think the full bus perished including some children on an outing...which haunted me as a child too at the time.
being a land bound lad from Jackson, Pontchartrain felt like the ocean to me.
used to be an old hotel in the Garden district called that too...had a good restaurant called the Caribbean Room.

No, I have only been here for 4 years. That bridge scares me to death! Not a safe feeling when you can't see any land! I hate all bridges, especially the tall ones and avoid them whenever I can. There is a fairly common condition called "gephyrophobia" (inordinate fear of bridges) which I may actually have. Whenever I cross a bridge, I get a very anxious feeling. Nothing to do with the hurricane.
