Children Transported To Hospital For Treatment
SILVER SPRING, Md. -- As many as 15 adults and children are being treated for what authorities said was an attack by a swarm of yellow jackets on a Washington-area elementary school.
Montgomery County Fire spokesman Pete Piringer said it happened shortly before noon at Montgomery Knolls Elementary School in Silver Spring.
Officials said the children were walking in a wooded area with adults from their day-care center when they apparently moved a log, which turned out to be the nesting spot for the yellow jackets. That got the yellow jackets buzzing, and before everyone could escape, 11 of the 15 children were stung, along with three adults.
According to Piringer, the children range in age from 3 to 5 years old. Three of the children were stung repeatedly and had reactions. Eight others were stung once or twice.
All 11 children were taken to Holy Cross Hospital to be checked out.
I don't know about that particular picture. I have seen a squirrel catch and eat a lizard. I have also seen them eat cow-pie. A squirrel is really a rat with good PR.
LMAO!!! You should send that to her:

Last summer while remodeling my house the construction worker stirred them up from somewhere.
Two of the guys got stung and both wound up in the hospital.
My neighbor about 5 houses down got stung this summer and the hospital told him he had about 2 minutes left to live before his heart swelled up so large that it would burst. He never had an allergy to bee stings before and has made a full recovery. He now carries around that injection needle that gives him a grace period of about 10 minutes to reach the hospital
My brother calls them tree rats.
I hate those things. I wish I could kill them by shooting them.
When I was a kid, we had a swarm of them take up between two trees at the end of the house. One Saturday, a family came by selling quilts. Me and my brother took their kids, who were our age to show them the yellow jackets. Well, somebody did something to stire them up, and they chased us back to the house. We had them in our clothes, our hair, and they got inside the house. I hate them too, but not as bad as I hate wasps(not WASPs).
But it was damn fun wasn't it!!!
We've been seeing some kind of yellow jacket / red wasp looking hybrid around here for the last several years.
These things are about 2 inches long and red with the stripe pattern of a yellow jacket. They do NOT have a typical sting of either one, but seem to have a more potent variety of poison.
When someone gets stung, it makes a huge welt that, over time, becomes a black spot, then a hole in the skin.
We make a poultice of moistened tobacco and ice to take away some of the painfulness of the sting.
Wait a second.
Public school kids taken to "Holy Cross" Hospital? That can't be - what about seperation of church and state? GET THE ACLU ON THE PHONE!!
Personally, I use CRC brake cleaner, instant death!! I may rethink that though, after reading your description of Engine Brite.
That is only recently. For 40 years or so they even advertised they were the "ones in the gold coats". One of my best friends was a C21 agent an always tried to get me to work there.
I told him I hated those jackets.
i'm sure if you shoot a shotgun (regular not sawed off) at point blank when they are in their nest that' you'll get 99% of them...
Yellow jackets are wasps!
