Movie theater attendance has been trending downward for years. Everyone has an opinion on the reason.

My prediction is that studios are going to release new movies via home pay-per-view. Movie theaters are going to become obsolete like adult theaters.
I did my part last year. I saw Chicago at least eight times.
Theater popcorn became uneatable when they stopped using coconut oil and real butter. I hope you use both (I do).
The Great Raid was a recent good movie I saw. I can't wait to see the Johnny Cash movie. I really liked Diary of a Mad Black Woman. That was a movie I want to buy. Aside from a few good movies, I would rather wash my car than dish out money to the lefties. I want to see the penguin movie though probably wait till that goes DVD.
They do, they just all go straight to cable as "SciFi Originals".
It's not the theaters -- it's the movies and the prices. Most script-writing stinks, and in the rare case where it doesn't, you can wait 5 months and buy the DVD for what it costs for two people to go to the theater w/ no concessions.
1. Audience more obnoxious than ever.
2. $10 tix + concessions? Buy the DVD for less two weeks from now.
3. Pursuit of blockbuster bottom lines have rendered talented filmmakers on the verge of extinction in Hollywood. The piss-poor quality of movies today is finally coming home to roost.
4. I see enough celebrities on the magazine rack at the supermarket. What, I have to pay $20 to see Angelina Jolie in a movie on top of this?
5. It's become harder and harder to separate the art from the political bias of the artists. Everything seems tinged with the stench of leftist drivel, even if it's not. Case in point, the latest "Star Wars" installment and charges that George Lucas had an anti-Bush message to send. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. But it's easy to see why people think he did.
Like a good book, I will watch a (good) movie that appeals to me numerous times so why waste my money on a ticket when I can have the DVD?
Case in Point : "The Phantom of the Opera" - 3 times in the last 36 hours... but don't tell my husband because he's already wondering what I've been doing during that time....
;D
The last time I went to the movies, I took the kids to see... I can't remember "Shark boy and Clobber Girl" or something? Anyways, you needed special glasses and of course the theater was out of them. I mean, it was only noon on Friday before the 4th of July weekend, who'd of expected them to have them on hand, right?
So, we decided to see "Herbie Fully Loaded". By the time I bought the tickets, got the kids sodas and candy and a water and popcorn for me, I was out SIXTY FIVE ONES!!!
We get in the theater itself and people are talking on cell phones, it's filthy, and when my daughter needed to use the rest room, it was TRASHED! I mean, FRAT PARTY DESTRUCTION! PORTA-POTTY outside of a New York Giants game! Just gross. I asked to speak to the manager, waited 20 mins and left to use the facilities at home.
I did get 5 "free" passes after writing the manager, but I've got no interest in going to the theater ever again.
So, just in keeping with the rules, that Lindsay Lohan was SMOKIN' HOT! She rescued that movie, or the half I saw anyways. Here's some photos...

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
I don't go primarily because I'm not going to give the MPAA $6-8 when I can get the same movie two months later for .75 through netflix. No cell phones, no mouthy teenagers, no sticky floors, and the best part is I can smoke/drink while I watch the movie (if I choose to).
LOL! Damn! Why doesn't she just have a wardrobe malfunction and get it over with?
1. Outrageous prices for popcorn, drinks and candy!
2. Interminable pre-preview advertising!
3. Previews that go on forever and ever!
4. Unruly children!
5. The Will Rogers Institute shill!
It seems to me that they must be wondering why the targeted audience isn't coming, i.e. the young. It must be the movies themselves.
don't forget the gum under the seats, and the people right behind you in the next row constantly kicking your seat.
Argh! Yes! The pre-movie SLIDESHOWS make me completely ill!
I don't go because I have the attention span of a gnat, so I hate sitting that long.
Dirty movie theatres are nasty. It's a major reason I rarely go. Also the prices are just too high for a family.
I also boycott anything that even tries to indoctrinate me with leftist drivel. Star Wars was the one exception I made. But to see a Barbra Streisand or Alec Baldwin movie? Never.
