CABLE BATTLE: CNN HEAD CALLS FOXNEWS COVERAGE 'MEANINGLESS NONSENSE'
Drudge Report ^ | 8/23/05 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 08/23/2005 5:58:14 PM PDT by wagglebee

CNN President Jonathan Klein implies ratings news leader FOXNEWS is mired in coverage of "meaningless nonsense," claiming: "Fourteen Americans dead, and they have Natalee Holloway on," Klein says. "And they're supposedly America's news channel."

"It's easy and it's brainless," Klein charges in a telephone interview set for publication at the NEW YORK TIMES, explaining why cable news outlets had gravitated to the Aruba story. "They're looking for an ongoing drama" along the lines of the NBC crime show "Law & Order," he said, adding, "Except 'Law & Order' doesn't do the same plot every night."

"There are an awful lot of things you can cover if you don't have people tied up with this meaningless nonsense," Klein says.

In early July, Klein pulled CNN's correspondent out of Aruba and dropped the subject from most CNN shows in the absence of new developments.

"If Jon performed as well as he talks, he wouldn't have to explain his network's dismal ratings," says Irena Briganti, a spokeswoman for FOXNEWS. "We have trounced him on every breaking news story from the London bombings and last week's events in Gaza."

Impacting...

Just took a quick channel tour and it's:

CNN--Olivia Newton-John's boyfriend overboard.
MSNBC--same thing
FOX--the hag Mary Matalin giving her opinion of Roberts.

B_O_O_O_O_R_R_R_I_N_G!

Does anybody remember Shark Summer '01?

Anyone remember what knocked it off the front pages?

August sucks for every business--News included. Have you tried to get anything done this month? Every week two or three people are on vacation.

No wonder things on tv are so boring.

If only they would stay nice and boring.

I would say that CNN is increasignly nonsensical meaningless and mindless. One can predict what its people are going to say about anything because they only have two or three messages, including Bush baaaaad, Republicans baaaad and any variety of collectivism, Marxism, or redistributionism gooooood. What breaking news!

Well, you can regularly see Sinatra, Dean Martin retrospectives. Connie Francis ad nauseum. Last night he had Pamela Anderson.

Rita Cosby on MSNBC are doing the Olivia Newton John story.

I had just flipped onto MSNBC about two minutes ago (because I'm getting sick of Hannity and Google), and heard Rita's voice before I saw her.

She's dropped maybe ten pounds facially, but by the sound of her voice those ten pounds wrapped themselves around her vocal cords.

Screw it....I'll move on to the Weather Channel, or go mow the lawn.

I do NOT watch any story about Natalee Aruba...and I have basically stopped watching FOX after Brit's show...except for certain guests on O'Reilly, or H&C...

BUT, unfortunately, Fox has widened its lead over the other channels this summer of Aruba...but, I think they are playing to the masses...most people take vacations..and are more into sensationalism, than social security or tax reform...go figure...

I catch your drift. "No news is good news", as my sainted mother used to say.

CNN does do similiar sensationalistic reporting but Fox wastes too much time as well and should not be above criticism in its appeal to the Springer crowd.

It's the nature of the medium and they all know it. They also know that anyone who wants in depth news doesn't really get it from them. CNN is just whining because they're loosing and trying to say Fox is not playing fair, is cheating, is dumb, is stupid, etc. etc.

Basically we have a supposedly educated intelligent corporate news executive saying...."Mommy, make them stop. They're not playing fair."

Yeah, I'm sick of Holloway too. I wish they would drop it until there is actually something to report.

According to Brit Hume's report tonight, CNN spent the day reporting on the Robertson-Chavez nonsense. Talk about a dwelling on a non-issue...

I love to watch Fox news, watched it almost everyday in Iraq. Can't get it now and I miss it.

However, they did get carried away with Scott Petersen and Michael Jackson. I felt there were other news out there that was more important. I still don't see why they don't give some more coverage to what is going on in South America.

CNN has a Spanish outlet and I can tell a lot of their coverage is biased, especially when it deals with the question of illegal immigration.

And they wonder why their ratings STINK!! This article "Help Me I'm a Republican in Hellywood" literally spoke volumes of what the MSM, HELLywood and the rest of the liberal establisbments think about Americans....IT WAS AN EYE OPENER for me and I intent to make copies and distributed to all my friends. Hopefully they'll stop going to the Movies!! Just a few excerpts revealing their hatred and their madness...I loathe these bastardly rats!

"In fact, these Hollywood executives do not deal in or care about truth. Did I mention that they are all active Democrats who consider Republicans war mongers, racists, homophobes and just plain evil idiots?

You see, Democrats in Hollywood, and pretty much everywhere, are not satisfied with debating the rights and wrongs of issues. It always comes down to personal attacks. Republicans are not just wrong, we’re evil. This talk show host is not simply wrong, he’s a lying hypocrite."

EYE OPENER!!! Screw CNN and all the freakin RATS!!

Yes...the ratings are king...Brit (with Krauthammer and frequent visits by Barone) does more than make up for all of the Fox shortcomings, though!!!!
I still thank Heavens for FoxNews
