I wrote down the first 10 that came to mind, but probably by tomorrow I will want to change my list. There were several ties, too.

1. Gone With the Wind

2. Ben Hur

3. The Quiet Man (Gotta have The Duke in there)

4. Alien

5. Citizen Kane

6. A Night at the Opera

7. The Passion

8, Suddenly Last Summer

10. A Summer Place

For what it's worth, I happened to catch an INCREDIBLE performance by a silent-film actress last year on one of the cable channels. I don't think it was Sarah Bernhardt, but I do think she was a well-known French actress of the day (maybe around 1920). Her performance was riveting and I forgot I was watching a silent film, her facial expressions literally telling the story (& I found the inserted dialog almost unnecessary.) She had short black hair with bangs in the front, beautiful eyes, and if I could remember her name and the film I watched, it (she) would be on this top ten list. FYI
