Chuck Hagel loses it

Posted on 08/22/2005 6:09:59 PM PDT by qrayjack

Has Chuck Hagel lost his mind? The Republican Senator from Nebraska’s comments on ABC’s “This Week” were obviously politically motivated, but to what end? His remarks are the kind of rabid garbage one hears from Howard Dean or MoveOn.org. If Hagel figures on running for president he can forget it now, because he didn’t shoot himself in the foot; he shot himself between the eyes. If he felt the need to criticize the president’s Iraq policy there are rational ways to go about it, but the stuff Hagel spouted has no basis in fact. Credibility is essential for a presidential candidate and Chuck Hagel just showed America that he has none. “By any standard, when you analyze 2 ½ years in Iraq, we’re not winning.” That’s so far off the wall it makes you wonder if the man was drunk. “I think our involvement there has destabilized the Middle East, and the longer we stay there the more destabilization will occur.” Good Lord! Did Hagel make the rounds of left-wing websites and memorize all their preposterous talking points? “We are locked into a bogged-down problem not unsimilar, dissimilar to where we were in Vietnam.” Who’s pulling your strings Chuck, Ted Kennedy? Saying that the Army contingency plan is “complete folly,” Hagel declared inarticulately, “I don’t know where he’s going to get those troops. There won’t be any National Guard left... no Army Reserve left... there is no way America is going to have 100,000 troops in Iraq in four years.” Well, unless the terrorists start nuking all our military bases, one wonders how America is suddenly going to run out of military personnel. Maybe Hagel has been partaking of something stronger than Teddy’s single-malt scotch. Or maybe he thinks this idiocy will get the press on his side. I’ve got news for him. The press doesn’t elect presidents; we the people do. If Chuck Hagel ever had a snowball’s chance in hell of a run at the presidency, he tossed it down the drain Sunday morning on national television.

Harry Reid must have found something quite interesting in Chuck Hagel's FBI file.

You must admit it's gotten him a lot of face time, maybe he was jealous of Cindy?

Bob Beckel and Alan Combs liked it. They're full of themselves over the supposed 61% that are opposed to the war, as well.

Anyone got an email address for the esteemed soon-to-be former Senator from Nebraska?

Did you live through the Viet Nam era? The "anti-war" issue is one of the easiest to be exploited by demagogues. (Almost as easy as racism and bigotry).

Remember that even Nixon ran on a secret plan to end the war.

Unless we fight back every anti-war sentiment that pops up, the press and politicians will do to our troops in Iraq the same thing they did to them in Viet Nam.

It is not a partisan issue. Both Republicans and Democrats jumped on the anti-Vietnam bandwagon.

The clip they showed on FOX News this morning, showed him with Senator George Allen. What did Allen have to say about Chuck?

The Republican Senator from Nebraska’s comments on ABC’s “This Week” were obviously politically motivated, """

Most of what he said was true. We haven't "won" in Iraq if the country's a violent mess - which it is -- and the new constitution is going to enshrine Islam as the governing law. If anybody's "won" from this, it's the mullahs in Iran.

And how was Hagel being "politically motivated" in speaking these truths? You yourself say that he's buying trouble with Republican voters. He's not going to get any GOP nomination by telling the hard truths about Iraq that most GOP voters won't accept. It took courage to risk the anger of bushbots like you, by speaking the truths that you refuse to hear.

I'll donate a "<", and a "p", and a ">" to the cause, because I care. :)

Chuckie is an assclown and has kissed his chances goodbye unless he runs in the Democrat/Socialist primary.

I suspect Chuckie Hagel is mentally ill. Keep an eye on this one. Remember Ramsey Clark?

Recall Hagel! But Nebraska doesn't have the nads to do that, and the Omaha Demorat rag World-Herald thinks he's the second coming of Christ, so Hagel will be able to spew his bile as much and for as long as he wants to.
