There are those in the media and in print who can still muster sympathy for grieving mother Cindy Sheehan by stating that and I’m paraphrasing here, “the poor woman is being used by the radical Left” to advance their anti-war agenda.
Hogwash. It’s apparent that Ms. Sheehan is using the Left to advance HER anti-war agenda. What should be patently obvious to anyone with a brain at this point is that Ms. Sheehan was not happy with the lack of publicity her loony rants had been getting post her FIRST meeting with President Bush after the death of her son and the anti-war movement was quieted by President Bush’s reelection and the Iraqi’s first election.
In 2005, faced with defeat, the anti-war movement wasn’t getting any press. They needed a catalyst. After all the marches, rallies and other anti-war activities before and after the Iraq invasion in 2003, President Bush was re-elected in 2004. Iraqi’s are drafting a Constitution, training troops and policy, building schools and aiding the Coalition in beating back the insurgency and no one was paying attention to the “movement.”
Enter Cindy Sheehan. This is a savvy woman on a crusade and a crusade that started long before her son was killed in Iraq. She’s savvy because she’s a veteran of the anti-war movement who realized quite a bit ago that they were losing momentum and publicity in the post 2004 election Era and needed to gin things up a bit.
So Camp Casey was born. What better way to reignite old arguments, to reengage an eager press and to enlist the help of the Michael Moore’s and Moveon.org’s of the world than to camp out at the president’s ranch during the dog days of August when the press doesn’t have anything else to do.
Brilliant – game, set and match. Hence, the movement is reborn and energized with vigils, wall to wall press and the Left blogosphere capturing her every word.
With the re-birth of the anti-war movement on the front pages of America’s newspapers under the guise of a grieving mother’s request for a 2nd meeting with the president – her son, his patriotism, faith in his mission, his country and his commander in chief are all but forgotten.
But Ms. Sheehan also forgot her most fervent responsibility as a parent A successful mother’s most valued attribute is the ability to remember that once a child is born, it’s not a me world anymore - it’s all about them, their needs, wants and aspirations.
We give them unconditional love and support and when they make choices that we don’t agree with, or bring home a girl we don’t particularly like, or spend money foolishly instead of saving, or enter the Army instead of going to college, we bite our tongues, tell them we love them and give them the respect to make their own decisions and make their own mistakes. All the while we cheer them on from near or afar.
Ms. Sheehan failed her son on any number of levels and I cringe when I think about how her son felt leaving for Iraq to fight for a cause he volunteered for and believed in was one his mother was ashamed of. Did they correspond while he served overseas? His first tour was in Qatar I believe, did he receive encouraging letters from Mom or press clippings of her anti-war activism and Bush bashing campaigning for John Kerry?
People grieve in any number or ways when faced with the death of a loved one, but Cindy Sheehan method of grieving appears to dishonor all her son tried to accomplish with his life and to shame others who have made the same choice. Her rhetoric over the course of the last year has been beyond the pale and in no way resembles a reasoned and heartfelt dissent to the War in Iraq.
Cindy Sheehan missed the most important lesson of Parenting 101. Once a child is born, it’s not about you anymore, it’s all about them.
So I choose to make it all about them. In Casey’s memory, as well as all the other brave young men and women who have died and for all the thousands who are serving to protect our freedoms today across the globe – you have our loving support, our gratitude and we send a long distance embrace filled with pride for all you do for our country.
Americans should never forget who the real enemy is (Islamic Terrorists intent on killing Americans), that this is NOT Vietnam and that every soldier returning home from serving in the war deserves all the respect, love and honor that we, as a grateful nation, can muster for them. It won’t ever be enough but it’s a heck of a lot more than our military has been getting from the fields of Crawford, Texas.

I thought I was the only one to think that she will pop herself when she runs out of rabbits to pull out of the hat, but I see I am not alone.
Given the crowd she is hanging out with, if they decide her stock will go up as a result, they will help her along.
She is mentally ill if the media really cared about her like they claim to they should be paying for her to see a shrink.
I know it wasn't the writers intention, but this phrase certainly sounds to suggest that the Vietnam soldier didn't deserve "all the respect, love and honor that we, as a grateful nation, can muster for them."
Whoops, I forgot by the end of Viet Nam we didn't have much of a grateful nation. Sorry, my bad.
I was a small child at the time, but I believe that the treatment Vietnam troops received was a direct result of the media, hollywood, and the anti-war protestors. As I said, I was a small child, but if today's America didn't have an alternative media, talk radio and free republic, the media might have created a similar response.
I'm very proud of the conservative movement today and the people who vocally support the value of a single armed man willing to defend freedom no matter the cost.
The thing that really gets me about Cindy is that she so obvioiusly hated everythng Casey stood for and worked for, and did everything she could to undermine him and his mission while he was alive. There were probably other very serious issues between Cindy and Casey before he joined the Army, an act that must have really galled her, let alone the extent to which she must have been infuriated by his re-enlisting contrary to her deepest desires. From her view of America, he'd basically married the Devil's daughter and started having children with the Devil's daughter. That being the case, it would be very easy for her not to feel much real grief at all, but to be anxious to parade as much false "grief" as possible and use it as a weapon to slime Casey's memory and mission, which is exactly what she's doing.
Now she fraudulently, loudly, and lugubriously "grieves" about his death every time a TV camera is pointed at her, just like Bill Clinton "grieving" over Ron Brown's death. Even more vile, she's crassly appropriated Casey's heroic death and twisted it to attack everything he honorably stood for. In effect, as a way to express her real hatred for him and get posthumous revenge on him for his patriotism, she's installed a toilet on top of his grave, copiously used it herself, and invited thousands of other traitors to do the same. Utterly contemptible.
Since Cindy was involved in every far left, anti-American cause she could find long before Casey enlisted, she did everything she could to undermine him and his mission and encourage the Islamofascists to murder every American they could, just the way Nick Berg's father did.
Surprise!! The Islamofascists took that encouragement by those two evil people and murdered Nick Berg and Casey Sheehan. Short of pulling the trigger herself, "Mother Cindy" couldn't have done much more to kill Casey. That puts her right there beside Andrea Yates. What's far worse, she's now trying to make sure lots more Americans, thousands more, get killed by the Islamofascist subhumans.

Again, hogwash. Her tirade began as a simple request and when she was denied further access to the President, she allowed herself to be spoon-fed insults and accusations against the President from the leftist Bush-haters. No, Sheehan didn't concoct those slurs against Pres. Bush from between her own two ears, they were picked up by her from an outside Bush-hater source.
Look closer - you can still see where the puppet strings of the left are attached. Sad fact - she doesn't have the good sense to know it.

I have looked at her writings and have duly noted the increasing caustic nature of said pieces, especially with the most insulting and critical beginning this year. I've also noted when the abrasiveness of her comments first began - shortly after her link with AFSC. I've also noted how Sheehan's "messages" also reflect those Bush-hater's quote d'jour. They are using her to promote their own agenda. Research AFSC - they even boast Sheehan represents their "values".

For example, it was nearly 25 years after my return before even one person "thanked me for my service", not that I really needed it for I was proud even though most American's really didn't want me to be.
Today every soldier I see I personally walk up and thank him for his/her service. The response is profound gratitude that I would take the time to thank them and I really enjoy doing so.
Both sides of the coin back in those days really wished we would disappear into the wood work, and I sincerely believe deep down in side it was motivated by shame. And to be honest most of us did just that ... "slipped into darkness".
Hopefully, America has grown up a bit and won't let it happen again to this current crop of heroes selflessly serving. But I wonder.

If only it was Cindy Sheehan that suffered a stroke instead of her mother, the left would have a silent martyr. That would be perfect. Imagine all the mileage the left could get from this if only Cindy would stop talking.
I truly believe that your service and the injustice that was committed upon your return is being undone each and every day. John Kerry, without knowing it, provided the catalyst for my generation to re-examine the Vietnam era - and examine it in terms of today's war and today's heroes.
One thing I've learned in my 33 years is that liberal lies and media spin cannot stand the test of historical context. As evidence, I point to the fact that the anti-war activits of today CANNOT disparage the troops. The public will not tolerate it. They have to stick to Bush. It was your sacrifice and your dishonor that led to the inability to dishonor the troops of today. And the "silent" majority from your era, is now repenting for the sins of their past by supporting the troops and their mission publicly and overwhelmingly.
You were dishonored by screaming leftists and silent conservatives, but this pain has lead directly to our ability to fight the war on terror - the man upstairs has a strange way of working.
