I thought he did answer the question:
"Why didn't the president's daughters go? It's a volunteer force! The president didn't "send" Cindy Sheehan's son over there; he volunteered."
Our legislators have made the armed forces a volunteer effort. Perhaps the question might be better phrased: Why don't more 'senator's sons' volunteer for military service as a career choice?
And now I'm wondering just how many young adult children we are talking about? I doubt Ted Kennedy or Pat Leahy have kids that are the usual age for military service.

A "volunteer" Army does not equate to volunteering to go to Iraq.
How many "volunteers" are we getting these days?
