I just spoke with SoldiersPrayingMom and Jim Robinson on the caravan about 100 miles out of Yuma. Jim reports the weather is about 108º outside but nice and cool inside his van. Jim reports they are making good time and are on schedule.

Several more vehicles have joined the caravan along the way and they have been well received at all stops. Protesters are always there being obnoxious.

After a good conversation with Jim, he handed me back to SoldiersPrayingMom.

As many of you know, SoldiersPrayingMom (Ruth) is the mother of freeper jmpmst4u2 (Greg), a US soldier working with the Iraqi Wolf Brigade, who has been allowing us share in his "Greg's letters home" by allowing me to post them on FreeRepublic. Jmpmst4u2 has had some remarkable experiences in Iraq.

Yesterday, his mother was meeting up with the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" caravan in Sacramento to ride down to Fresno to join Jim Parkinson for the rest of the tour, when her husband said "Hey, Ruth, that guy over there looks a lot like Greg!" He was right... because it WAS Greg, home for a 14 day leave!

Ruth was in a quandary. Here was her son home to spend some time with his family, and she was on her way to confront Cindy Sheehan in Crawford, TX. After hugs and lots of weeping, she told Greg of her quandary. He said "Mom, I want you to go. I need you to go. The guys over there in Iraq need you to go."

"It was," she said, "the hardest decision I have ever made."

When asked by Marine Moms' Deborah Johns "Why are you here... your son is home for a visit." Ruth replied "I have my orders from my sergeant... I have to go!" Greg was the man quoted in the AP article on the caravan who confronted the protesters in Sacramento, telling them "You are ruining the morale over there!" (Incidentally, his Mom and Jim did not know about the article... I got to tell them.;^)> )

Ruth reported that she and Deborah Johns were interviewed by this morning in Los Angeles.

Many in the MSM have alleged that President Bush has "no compassion" for the families of the soldiers who died in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, it seems that President Bush has met with a higher percentage of those families than any other wartime president, certainly a higher percentage than LBJ met with during the Vietnam War.

Does anyone have any statistics? I believe it would change the course of the discussion about President Bush's compassion if those statistics were available.

Thanks for the update. I look forward to meeting PSM when she gets back - if not before her son goes back to the sandbox, after. I'm sure she'll want to spend every minute she can with him. He is a terrific young man.

"Lets take a moment to appreciate the fact that our nation's leader has taken the time to meet with the family members of 270 of the 1,853 soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq. Which means that Bush has met with the families of 14.5% of all the soldiers who have died. Including Cindy Sheehan and her family. And not including the multitude of wounded soldiers he's met with."

He also met privately with more today.

I just wonder if there is a pic somewhere of Cindy during her youth spitting on soldiers...she certainly fits the part of a 60's throwback.

The Caravan is currently in Phoenix, Arizona. The local radio station, KFYI is broadcasting live. From all the loud cheering I heard on the radio, it sounds like there was a HUGE crowd there to welcome the caravan.

The show that was covering the caravan is now over. However, I'm hoping the next host will also be talking about it. Not sure if I posted this update on the right thread???

C'mon...I'm sure a picture exists somewhere of the drama queen chucking a brick through a window, burning a flag or some such. Even commie hippies like John F'n can't hide from historical fact!

Thank you Swordmaker for pinging me to this...How I've missed your posts about Greg's letters I don't know.

Ruth I am moved to tears by the decision you had to make. I can't imagine how hard that must have been.

Greg...God bless you for your service to America!

It sounds as if you know a good bit about the Sheehan family. I have a question you might be able to answer.

I heard Roger Hedgecock (one time San Diego mayor turned radio show host)say on his show today that Cindy did not raise Casey. He was raised by his step-mother. I know he interviewed the caravan this morning and wondered of that is where he got his info.

I have no idea if this is true, do you?
