Natalee Holloway's disappearance has tugged at the hearts of newspaper readers and TV viewers across the United States, but it really hit home to Georgia Tech guard Nate McManus.
McManus attended Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham with Holloway, the honors student who vanished during her senior class trip to the Caribbean island nation of Aruba. McManus was Class of 2004, Holloway Class of 2005. They have friends in common, and she performed on the dance team at football games in which he played.
"I did the exact senior trip she has not returned from," McManus said. "I was in her exact position 365 days earlier."
He was home when Holloway didn't return with her classmates on May 31. Police found her passport and packed bags in her hotel room, but they have been unable to find her.
"That's been really hard on our community," McManus said.
