One of the Venezuelan banks the clan worked with, the "Banco de la Construcción", has an off-shore subsidiary on Aruba: the Intercon Financial Bank, through which a lot of money was channelled.A Smugglers' Paradise
The Intercon Financial Bank on Aruba is represented by the law-firm Croes & Wever. One of the partners is former Minister of Justice Hendrik Croes. The firm's trust-company Arulex was implicated in setting up the bank. ""Yes, we are involved with that bank"," says Croes. ""We still handle all their legal affairs, but we don't know anything of their financial accounts"." (70)
Hendrik Croes a brother of the island's legendary leader, the late Betico Croes who guided Aruba to its semi-independent status in the Dutch realm is one of the leading political figures on the island. He led several election campaigns for the MEP, now in the opposition. The Croes Family has been accused of ties with Cuntrera-Caruana. The Sicilian mafiosi payed for a trip of another brother, Rudy Croes (who succeeded Hendrik as Minister of Justice in a previous MEP government) as party secretary to a meeting of the Socialist International in Turkey. This has not been denied.
Paolo Cuntrera visited the island regularly despite his expulsion in 1988. The government opposed his legal actions for re-admittance. But Hendrik Croes has to admit the procedures were not stainless. A blundering government lawyer, an official who signed a residence permit 'by mistake', meant that "de facto" Paolo Cuntrera was able to circulate freely on the island.
According to Canadian police reports, in 1978, Pasquale Cuntrera owned the Holiday Inn Casino although the registers indicated otherwise. ""At the start of 1980s the Cuntrera's were often at the Holiday Inn casino"," says a croupier. ""In 1989 they were there again, although they were ostensibly thrown of the island"."
DEA agent David Lorino, the case-officer in Operation Wiseguy, claims that ""when the Cuntrera's moved to Venezuela they carried some 15 to 30 million dollars with them, which were invested in hotels in Caracas, but also on Curaçao and Aruba"." 71 The DEA had used the Miami-based Italian-born Venezuelan business man Raffaele Bellizzi to contact Pasquale Cuntrera. Before 1983 Bellizzi owned a shipping-company, but that year it went bankrupt because of the debt-crises in Venezuela. ""He told us that his ships transported narcotics and money from Caracas to Aruba and Europe","says Lorino. As mentioned before Canadian investigations show that the clan used Aruba as a trampoline for cocaine to North America.
Here's ont that interests me some from November of 2002. This guy is Abdels boss now. (Follow the music???)
"He says he spent 15 days in Cuba auditioning dancers for the Havana Tropical revue. Businessman Alfonso Riverol, the owner of the Wyndham Resort & Casino, was proud to introduce another fine edition of the sexy show to a handful of friends and associates, last night. Its almost opening day, he announced, were polishing the production up, then the formal cocktail party will take place."
As for being just sent to Holland, he didn't mention a date, but I thought that he meant he was sent to study in Holland, as is usual the case here. But I do not know anything about this boy.
There IS a Kalpoe living on Aruba, he was born in 1966. I presume he is the father, but I don't know.

Truck driver receives Purple Heart
August 16, 2005 A truck driver with 3rd Infantry Division was awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart Aug. 11 in a ceremony at the Division Support Brigade Ministry Center.
Staff Sgt. Khevin G. Smith, a heavy-wheel vehicle operator with the 104th Transportation Company, 87th Corps Support Battalion, DSB, was awarded the medal by Brig. Gen. Mark E. ONeill, the assistant division commander for support for the 3rd Inf. Div.
Smith received the medal for wounds received in action April 20 when his convoy was ambushed on its way to Camp Liberty. Smiths Heavy Equipment Transporter was struck by a vehicle-borne explosive device.
Smith managed to evacuate his truck commander, Spc. Morris Smith, who was sitting in the passenger seat. The two of them were picked up by Sgt. Eric L. Martin, who had pulled his HET next to them as they exited their damaged truck.
The actions of Martin and the escorts from the 3rd Battalion, 117th Field Artillery Regiment, Alabama Army National Guard are the reason were here, said Smith, whose unit deployed from Fort Benning, Ga.
(Editors Note: article submitted by Sgt. 1st Class Peter Chadwick, Division Support Brigade public affairs.)
I agree with you here. The phone call doesn't fit. There are a number of other things that at a minimum don't exactly fit. I'd start with Beth's initial reaction that Natalee had been kidnapped. (I know this was debated but I'm not convinced that's the first response from the average American whose child doesn't show up for her flight on a resort island with no particular history of such thing.) I'd include Charles Croes early involvement, the mysterious phone call he listened to, the congressman who said there was good reason (that he couldn't go into) for the FBI's involvement on that list as well.
It could well be that the date "rape gone worse" is the the sum total of the actual crime against Natalee and the actual deep dark secrets that seem to surround this case have to do with the corruption and conflicts that have existed for a long, long time in Aruba.
Is he home over in Iraq currently?
home OR over in Iraq....
How wonderful. I'm proud of your son, also.
I'm so glad he recovered and was able to receive the Purple Heart in person.
Makes me proud to know you too, TexKat, even if it is through FR. Thank you to the both of you.
All that you said justche. He is still in Iraq. At least 5 more months this time around. Yes, it brought joy and tears simultaneously to mom.
Thank you grizzfan.
TexKat, what a fine young man you've raised! God bless him and all our troops! And God bless you! :o)
Just WOW!
God's blessings to you both.
And a really big THANK YOU!
No. However, as with all of our speculation, comments from those closest to the investigation should serve to test a theory. Disregarding the possible multiple meanings of these comments or interpreting them in the one way that advances any theory, isn't really a validation.
So we'll pray and pray and pray until he is back home and happily giving his wonderful mom hugs and kisses! :o)
Thank you for sharing that TexKat!
Please tell your son thank you and congratulations from his FR family.
Your son is among our best. May God bless him and send him home safe!!!
Wow Kat, thank him for his service for me! I hope the rest of his tour is safe and you get to see him soon. He's modest too, a good quality.
Is he a Freeper yet? Get him signed up! I'll bet he is efficient and organized like you!
