Good for you! Leave it to the market and people will always find ways to solve what they consider their problems. My commute is only 5 miles one way but still it would be nice to do my work from home. Then I could use my fuel for weekend trout fishing trips. :)

My house in Mira Mesa was 4.3 miles from my office at PacBell. A sweet deal while it lasted. I changed jobs and the new employer was 7.5 miles away. Initially, that was about a 12 to 15 minute drive. As the area became more developed, the drive turned into 40 to 90 minutes each way. My contracts were classified, so I was obligated to travel to the office to do my work. I've arranged to work on less classified stuff now, so most of my work can be done at home. That was the impetus to relocate to Pocatello from San Diego. I paid the entire cost out of pocket. It was a good choice for my household.
