I see the mods pulled ALL of the threads, sending everyone here. Which was a good idea, considering that so far I've counted at least 12 new "Peter Jennings is Dead" threads, including 5 at one time in Breaking News.

RIP, Peter Jennings. He became an American citizen two years ago and just had his birthday per CNN.

Lung cancer is usually one of the most aggressive types of cancer and one of the most difficult to treat. I watched my brother-in-law die from it. It's not a pretty sight.

It is admirable that Jennings, in his bestselling coffee table book In Search of America, didn't cleanse Freepers from the world scene. The D.C. Chapter is represented in a large black-and-white photo protesting outside the Clinton White House. A picket sign with "www.FreeRepublic.com" is clearly legible.

This is re: Frank Reynolds. When Ronald Reagan ran for President the first time, my mom worked at the mall for the campaign - it was easier to do back then to get near the candidate. Mom talked to Frank Reynolds who was traveling with Reagan. I have FR's autograph on a RR pamphlet.

Me neither.......he sure didn't look it, especially considering he was sick.
RIP, Mr. Jennings. May God Bless you and your family.

Admin Moderator changed the original headline from "Peter Jennings near death" to "Peter Jennings Dead ..." when the situation changed. (It was also moved into Breaking News at that point.)

I was stunned and saddened to hear of his death. I will pray for his family. Even though I did not agree with him on many things, I always felt he loved America and was a good man.

You are correct, this was fast. My father died 3 weeks after he was diagnosed. And he was under a doctors care for over a year at the time. Thirty-five years ago, and sometimes I feel that we are still at ground zero with cancer. What a wicked disease. May he rest in peace. Prayers for his family.

Just a thought, I wonder how much the "aggresive chemo" had to do with his rapid decline? I'm just guessing, but I wonder if it was small cell carcinoma. Ususally by the time they find it, it has spread considerably.
It's one of the most aggressive forms of lung cancer.
Might be one reason for the aggressive chemo. It's a nasty, and brutal form of cancer (like most cancers are).
RIP Mr. Jennings. Godspeed with you.

My thoughts and sincere sympathies go out to his family and friends. He was a gifted broadcaster. May he rest in peace.
