I am not totally against schools or pro sports teams using Native American related names or mascots. However, two things bother me. One is the name Washington Redskins, and the other is the logo for the Cleveland Indians.

Two possible solutions: First, if teams do change their names, during the postseason the student body could wear full headress in the stands. If teams decide to change their names, I suggest "The White Dominators." The PC crowd should love that.

Have any of you ever pondered the term "Yankee" or the real meaning behind the song title "Yankee Doodle Dandy"?

Yankee doodle dandy translated from the British slang of the late 1700's means self pleasuring cross-dresser.

Up to the early 70s, it was the eastern Eastern Washington State University "Savages". Mascot was an Indian with a scalp. Even the Native Americans on campus, and there were a lot of them, were against changing the mascot to 'Eagles'.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will certainly be barred by this standard. Because..whomever came up with this ruling is most assuredly a nut and will be offended by our mascot.

We need to just forget that there ever was such a thing as a proud nation of Indians. Let us not dishonor their memory by naming our institutions of higher education in their honor. Instead, let's rename all our mascots after white European warriors and groups like the Vikings, the Huns, the Saxons; the Norman Invaders; the Beefeaters.... the 7th Cavalry.

Does this ban apply to Division I college football since college football technically doesn't a post-season tournament? If so, there is little hypocrisy allowing Florida State to use its nickname in a bowl game.

Another question, can CBS can the Fighting Illini of Illinois by their nickname and use graphics with referencing the nicknam during the NCAA basketball tournament?

I don't think the nickname of my alma mater, the UNC Tar Heels, is endangered, nor is its mascot (Rameses the ram, curiously having nothing to to with Tar Heels). But years ago, before freshmen were allowed to play on varsity teams, the UNC freshman basketball team was known as the "Tar Babies" -- think Uncle Remus. Now that could conceivably been construed as offensive by some sensitive souls.
