JERUSALEM (AP) -- A passenger on an Israeli bus opened fire on Thursday, killing three people, an Israeli police spokesman told Channel 2 TV, in an apparent argument among passengers. Five other people were wounded. The TV report said the gunman, in an Israeli army uniform, was captured by police. The gunfire erupted as the bus was on a road in Israel's north near the town of Shfaram. The spokesman told Channel 2 that the gunman was a soldier, three people were killed and several others wounded, and the gunman was captured. Channel 2 said the incident was not a terror attack.

Not only Israel's exports. Virtually its entire production of organic fruits and vegetables.
Nope.
The settler didnt build the homes with their own hands, they built it with Israeli govt subsidies, economic relief and Israeli construction companies.
Nobody said it was a crime. Nobody. Relax.
Actually, I've heard that too, and I suspect it's true. Though any study is going to be skewed since the target demographic is so small anyways...The settlers as a whole are a fairly respectable group overall, but they have slightly more than their fair share of nutjobs. It also comes with the territory: how many sane people do you know who would want to live in a small, exposed, vulnerable enclave in the heart of your enemy's territory, knowing that you and your children will be exposed to attacks from the enemy and your own side constantly?
For most, it's a matter of faith and dedication and idealism. For a few, well, as was said, they're just crazy.
This guy was a member of Kach, though, which is fairly racist. They used to have an associated wannabe terrorist group too. Nothing to effective, but embarassing to Jews as a whole.
Kach is a shameful organization. I normally stand with the settlers, as I continue to do in the face of this ridiculous retreat from the terrorists, but at the same time, what this guy did unexcusable and unforgivable. And he should and will pay for it. He's a terrorist. End of story.
I think you posted to the wrong person.
Or, where's the bunny with a pancake on her head?
"Relax"
Only a fool would relax when there are wolves and nazis circling the sheep and God's Chosen.
Never
Piranha's points are valid, Esther. Most Settlers are decent, but a few just don't work. They are used to mooching off the government. Thankfully, there aren't too many of these, even in the kollel community. But there are enough that they are a burden and an irritation.
Studying in kollel for a few years is good. Studying in kollel at everyone else's expense is bad. Simple as that.

According to a posting at YNET (and I'm not vouching for its accuracy)"
"The attacker was from Rishon L'Tziyon, not Tapuach, unless Rishon is also a settlement. He was a crazy that was kicked out of the army, and the GSS had a long file on him. His only conenction to Tapuach was that he wandered around there ranting after the army kicked him out. In Tapuach they reported him as a provocateur."
Unfortunately, there are emotionally disturbed individuals in communities all over the world. Sometimes they link their illness/anger to external circumstances, and sometimes they retreat into their madness. It appears that this was the situation on the bus.
Unfortunately, I also read that the shooter was lynched by a mob, so, like Lee Harvey Oswald (admittedly, their targets were quite different) we'll never have the opportunity to hear his story, however deranged it may have been.
Perhaps for you support of President Bush is contigent upon him embracing the agenda of thse settler idiots. Not me. For me "my honor is my loyalty".
Don't relax, but calm down. Panicked and irrational thinking is not helpful or condusive to finding a solution.
We've survived four thousand years, constantly surrounded and attacked by enemies. We are not going to disappear anytime soon. We will continue surviving, and fighting for a better world, and building a better world.
The important thing is to recognize a problem, unite and work together to solve it, then go back to living our own lives.
Am I supposed to be sorry I "slandered" the mass murdering settler in today's shootings.
My problem with SOME of the settlers began with the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin of Israel on November 4, 1995 by an ultra-Orthodox religious zealot, Yigal Amir. The assassin was not a lone psychotic gunman but, instead, was a young man nurtured within Israels far-right religious institutions. After the murder, he was hailed as a hero by many, not only in Israel but among kindred spirits in the United States.
I'm not suggesting that those in Jewish Religious schools are comparable to the Wahabbi's. The statement was made not in regards to today's bus attack, but to the statement that Israel is perhaps heading towards a civil war among different Israeli factions. Some are understandably upset that I described it as "sitting around all day", but I still suspsect and stand by the idea that the State of Israel subsidizing people who believe that they never have to work, and also don't seem to think that they have any responsibilities around the home is a bad idea. One of the reasons why I think it is a bad idea is that among populations that don't work, radical ideas that lead to violence seem to gain traction.
I would say that this is different from priests, monks, etc. Because there aren't large swaths of the population and entire cities of priests and monks.
Settler kills three in Israeli Arab town

A Jewish settler in army uniform opened fire on bus passengers in a Druze neighborhood of the Israeli Arab town of Shfaram in northern Israel Thursday afternoon. Israel shooting attackThree people - the driver and two women - were killed and five injured, three of them critically. Israeli sources said the Jewish terror attack carried out by a religious man from the West Bank settlement of "Tapuah."
Following the shooting, angry residents boarded the bus and killed the shooter.
According to Haaretz, dozens of locals threw stones and bottles at the bus.
The shooting apparently took place in the wake of a dispute between the soldier and fellow passengers on Egged bus No. 165, which goes from Haifa to Shfaram.

"There are some serious crazies in the settler population."
And just where does the "settler population" come from?
There is a serious misconception about what exactly a true "monastic" life involves. St. Benedict founded the first Christian monastic order in the 6th century. For centuries, the motto of the Benedictine order has been the Latin phrase "Ora et Labora" (prayer and work) . . . Benedictine monks were expected to grow their own food, do their own skilled labor, etc.
There ya go. A crazy provocateur who is now going to be taken as existence that ALL the settlers are crazy, when in reality, a few rotten apples give the whole barrel a bad name, even when they bad ones are taken out in time. I read the shooter was taken into custody, so hopefully we will see justice.
We all know right wingers, known as settlers in Israel, are lunatics, dangerous when they get near firearms. It's a premise of the gun-grabbers. He in the US our murder rate 3 to 5 times that of Israel. We need to get the guns and start throwing the lunatic right wingers in jail.
I am not denying that many of the Gaza Jews are refusing to leave. I wish that all of them were refusing to leave, but I can't urge them on from the comfort of my home in the US.
Secretary Rice has advocated Prime Minister Sharon's policy of destroying Jewish communities in Gaza and in part of the West Bank. That does not mean that it is the right policy. We don't believe in Secretarial Infallability in matters of policy.
I don't think that it is "leftie values" to disagree with the President of the United States. Many FReepers, for example, disagree with his policies on immigration. This does not make them lefties. In my opinion it is no more lefty to hold onto your home in Gaza than it is to hold onto your home in Bridgeport (or wherever Kelo occurred).
Also, these people are Israelis who, for the most part, are not US citizens (there was a breakdown of country of origin for the Jews of Gaza that was published a few days ago). They don't owe the same allegiance to the President of the US that we Americans do. In any case, if I were in their shoes I would say that my home comes before my loyalty to the Secretary of State of another country, and that I would defend my right to remain in my home over the potential embarrasment to the President of that country.
Frankly, I doubt that many of them are giving any thought at all to whether their actions are embarrassing the President of the United States. They are defending their right to remain in their homes, and they are defending their right to remain in the face of eviction based on the fact that they are Jews.
It is inexplicable to me why President Bush, who clearly said that people are either with us or they're with the terrorists, has chosen to side with the terrorists in the case of the Gaza destruction.
