South central LA is occasionally a war zone. Gangs are a major problem.

Isn't that pretty? I stayed there a couple years ago. Try some of the Moonstone hotels in Cambria.

San Diego is beautiful. If I HAD to live out there I would choose SD over LA. It cost a lot more to live there than NJ. Make sure they give you a BIG raise. My company is in NJ and SD as well and they have discouraged us from moving out there due to the cost. (translate: no raise if you transfer).

If you're a rap star they're called "Entourages" :-)
It was nice to see all the positive comments about San Diego-it realy is nicer, and more affordable (comparatively speaking) than other parts of the state...traffic is a pain in the ass, though. If you (designerchick) want to live a little further north, try Thousand Oaks. P.S. Don't forget to check out the Del Mar Fair if you move to SD.

I hope she marries you Laz. You need a woman to calm you down a little.

Welcome to California Jersey Girl...It'll be great having that 4th conservative LOL!!
Can't help you a lot in SoCal since I'm from SF, but if you ever want info for up here, let me know. There are actually some very nice places in Southern Cal...San Diego has some great areas, and there are some really nice areas south of LA proper. I believe Michael in SF already gave you the key......try to move close to your office, and spend as little time as possible on the freeways. My daughter lives in Rancho Palos Verdes and works in Torrance so she avoids the freeways at Rush hour (which seems to be about 23 hrs of the day, from what I've seen.)
Again, welcome, and bring lots of money!!
To: Lazamataz
LOL!
Whats wrong with SD or LA? You're in GA?
That's too hot for me.
To: Clemenza; Jim Robinson
Now you've gone and done it!

I'm (almost) an architect. Right now I'm doing red lines (drafting/construction corrections)for single family homes.

"Moving to California"? Wonderful, you are about to embark on a great adventure. We moved to Central Calif. from Iowa, 30 years ago. Talk about "culture shock"! My parents lived in San Diego for nearly 20 years, ElCajon area. We recently visited San Diego County "Bell Gardens"; An Agritourism free family adventure. (Founded in 1993 by Taco Bell founder.) There are some very unique people and places throughout our beautiful state. Earthquakes are rare, thankfully have never felt one. People are cordial, kind and fun, Sequoias are gorgeous, awesome Ocean, majestic mountains, and Free Republic founder in Fresno.
Many talented conservative folks indeed!

California's great! Lotsa good Vietnamese and Mexican restaurants (no French like in New York), plenty of freeways to get around (and hardly any public transportation which state of things the "Conservatives" on this forum just luv!), cheap unskilled labor - just drive up to the nearest Home Depot and hire a Mexican to work your yard for $10 per hour, colorful, architecturally exciting mosques going up all around, Indians everywhere to make you feel at home when you shop by phone or contact your credit card company, what else? Ah yes, if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear flowers in your hair!
