My buddy just sent me a txt msg saying the power is out, the streets are flooding, the cells are down, and he heard a wind shear or tornado hit the area
Here is your monsoon...water vapor from an hour ago.... is it really 74 degrees?
wonder how many illegals went body surfing tonight...
HA!!!!!!
Actually, a sand storm did hit and I ducked into his place....the walls were shaking....and boy, did I start sneezing! Smelled like all those dairy cows and hay were flying around...
" is it really 74 degrees?"
72 here
If you look at the Las Vegas radar....their T Storms are heading east...
If they were in the desert today (at over 105 they shouldn't have been), they would love this rain tonight.
Tomorrow it is suppose to be 102
eeeeeewwwwwwwww........
We ended up driving about 5-10 mph. We could NOT see the road, but were afraid to stop for fear of being rear ended.
The kids were little ... and scared. It sure messes up the paint on your car!
They aren't sand storms or dust storms anymore.
The local weather folk came up with a new name that sounds good for ratings.
Haboob!
Its an arabic word.
Not to be confused with Liz Habib.
Please tell me you're kidding.
PLEASE?
In dust storms best thing to do is creep off the highway as far as you can get, turn all your lights off (so no one thinks you are on the road) and wait it out.
If you go slow on a highway, you will be rear ended.. If you stop on the highway, you are probaby dooooomed.
Usually they past in a few minutes.
Haboob? Sounds like a drinking game in a country western bar.
Its 82 here, frosty for this time of year.
Wish it was day time, hiking weather.
Just had massive thunder here, about one minute of rumbling.
I love the monsoon.
But, its still nothing like the fun rain in Thailand, I got caught in an instant flood once while riding a scooter, I had to ride on sidewalks to get anywhere.
Fun!
What was that 'all units go to normal status' did I miss something?
I got caught in a sudden dust storm out here a few years ago. Visibility dropped to nearly nothing, and the junk flying through the air cracked my windshield.
yes, they went from Storm Deployment to normal status....so they think the worst is over.
Anyway, the weatherman on channel 14 said this would go down in the books as one of the top 3-4 storms in the last 100 years! I mean, the amount of rain in just a few hours plus the fact that it went across the whole valley without petering out like they usually do, is just really unusual.
And they said the monsoon this year would be a bust....
A haboob is a big assed desert dust storm.
We get some here that rival the middle east, huge colums of dust several thousands of feet high, moving in.
Its cool (provided your eyes are covered)
No. This one lasted for many days. Honest. :)
Thanks for the advice....I'll pass it on to Gramps!
