I agree. Especially once he compiled a liberal voting record, he's good as gone.

but the point is he shouldnt win or even be within 10.
I remember special elections in 1993-94, were the GOP won seats away from DEMS one after another..this doesnt bode well for 2006..sorry but it doesnt

Governor Bob Taft may have destroyed the Ohio GOP.

There is no way that this is a disaster for George W. Bush.

The losers here are the Ohio Republicrats: Taft, Voinovich and DeWine. With performances such as these RINO's have shown recently it is squarely on their shoulders that the Republican Party in Ohio is in disarray.

Not necessarily. I think some protest-voters will be surprised how resilient an incumbent can be even when he is seemingly in the wrong party for the district.

Cleveland's west side had a Republican congressman for 2 terms 92 and 94, then things went back to normal. Incumbency did not save our boy from Dennis Kucinich.

"They aren't learning any valid lessons here. This is not a Hillary dry run imho."

Let's see them get an Iraq vet running for every district in the country.

That would be a laugh. A couple hundred Kerry-wannabees.

A few months before the 2004 election, there was a special election in South Dakota for a vacant house seat. Leftist Democrat Stephanie Herseth won it, by running as a conservative (as Hackett has done). Everyone at the time said it signified impending doom for the GOP and President Bush. It didn't. It just demonstrated that a leftist who is adept at sounding conservative can con their way into office.

Actually, it looks ok for Schmidt. She will kick Hackett's ass in Clermont county. If she hold her own in Hamilton county (Cincinnati) she will win.

it is a disaster for Bush and the national GOP...it will encourage massive fund raising for the DEMS..you can bet they will use these tactics in district after district

Don't forget Bob Taft's proclicity to raise taxes every 2 years. Schmidt voted for tax increases and lost her state house seat in a primary.

That is not how the MSM will spin it if Hackett prevails. They will call it a defeat for President Bush's Iraq policy.

Oh sure - did this guy run on a higher taxes, big government and soft on terrorism platform? Nuh-huh. Hackett ran as Bush's best friend. One would think that would make the DU Dummies go beserk. But they can't even have their candidate stand up in the middle of a GOP district and say, "I'm a liberal Democrat who hates Bush, I want us out of Iraq and I don't apologize for my views." None of that here.
