Over the years I have chosen to dump the technical langauage or reasons of homosexuality and just call it what it is. I am getting lazy and less PC aware the older I get.

My wife albeit a conservative ( not as much a me ) is a psychologist and we have rather heated arguments over genetic versus learned behavior.

Ask her if she's ever known a homosexual who has been satisfied with their life, or if they've ever demonstrated mental "imbalances" beforehand. I strongly believe that homosexuality is simply an indicator of larger psychological issues. Take my brother-in-law--he's a highly intelligent, educated guy who was very happy as a child, raised by two stable, loving parents, and the girls at school were all knocking each other over to get at him. Then one day, he comes out of the closet. Then, a few years later, he attempts suicide. He is severely bipolar (he claimed to suffer from PEST after the 2004 election...) and I believe that if he sought the proper treatment that he would find his homosexual desires fade away. Of course, that makes me a huge hate-monger, but what can ya do?

When one does not have to be encumbered with PC terms can be descriptive - a doctor I knew in Ireland called those 'afflicted' with homosexuality 'dung punchers'.

As to genetics, if it were genetic it would not be reproduced, and by now would have the same prevalence as the Dodo... 'Dung punching' does not produce offspring, at least not of a human sort.

genetic versus learned behavior

Where's the argument? Some is genetic, some is learned. There is such a thing as a natural golfer. Far many more learn it, like it, get in the habit, and get rather good at it. The real question is: what are the numbers?

However, make sure you check that opinion with "she who must be obeyed," before you mention it in public.

Maybe you have strong arguments over the origins of homosexuality because there is no one answer, there are components of both, genetics and environment.

I have seen very strong evidence of a hereditary component to homosexuality, but I believe that the predilection can be over come, or at least abstained from. On the other hand, I don't advocate for gay men to get married to a woman without warning her of his prediletion toward homosexuality. I have known too many men who carry on a double life, putting their families at risk.
