Turkey Calls For U.S. Action on Kurdish Guerrillas

LONDON; Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan warned on Thursday he could take action against Kurdish guerrillas in Iraq if U.S. forces did not stop the rebels infiltrating across the border into Turkey.

"At the moment, frankly speaking, we do not see the efforts by the U.S. that we expect to see. We have expressed our views to that effect to the Americans," Erdogan said in an interview with Britain's Times newspaper.

"There is a time limit. There is a limit to our tolerance," said Erdogan.

He said Turkey was within its rights under international law to defend itself from attack and drew a comparison with U.S. action against Afghanistan after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.

"That mandate is provided for in international law," he said.

"If a country, if a people, if a nation are under threat, that country can do what is necessary under international law ... we would exercise that right in the same way as any other country could, would and did exercise that right."

Turkey has blamed the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) for a rash of violence in the southeast of the country and says the guerrillas use bases in northern Iraq as a launchpad for attacks.

Despite a lull in violence after the capture of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan in 1999, fighting has increased sharply since the group called off a unilateral ceasefire last year.

The PKK has waged an armed campaign for an independent Kurdish homeland in southeast Turkey since 1984, and more than 30,000 people have been killed in the fighting.

Turkey has vowed never to negotiate with the PKK and together with the United States and the European Union brands the group as a "terrorist organization."

Ankara fears Kurds might establish an independent Kurdish state in northern Iraq and that this in turn could ignite separatism among Kurds in southeastern Turkey.

U.S. forces in Iraq are heavily committed against a Sunni Arab insurgency in central areas.

The Iraqi government, which has Kurds in senior posts, says Turkey must stay out of Iraq.

Eleni - "Lozan" is actually the Turkish word for "Lausanne." Lausanne Treaty is "Lozan Anlasmasi" in their language.

And of course our Turkish friend fails to explain to us why there are 300000 Muslims in Western Thrace yet the Greeks of Konstantinoupolis (the community of which my mother was born into, before the horror of September 6, 1955) are all but wiped out, in fact almost all are septugenarians or older.

But of course it's the dirty rotten infidels who are the ones violating this (unfair to aboriginal Anatolian people) treaty - not the pure Muslims. No sir.

Eleni, I'm Hellenic-American - just letting you know Xangoth is a Turkish troll pretending to be American.

Nor is he the first. In my four years I've counted several such trolls.

:-)

Good Demogology,

You made arguments about my nationality, made another genocide claim, and then told me about my grammar.

"Lousanne" Treaty;

SECTION II .
NATIONALITY.
ARTICLE 30.

Turkish subjects habitually resident in territory which in accordance with the provisions of the present Treaty is detached from Turkey will become ipsofacto, in the conditions laid down by the local law, nationals of the State to which such territory is transferred.

ARTICLE 31.

Persons over eighteen years of age, losing their Turkish nationality and obtaining ipso facto a new nationality under Article 30, shall be entitled within a period of two years from the coming into force of the present Treaty to opt for Turkish nationality.

ARTICLE 32.

Persons over eighteen years of age, habitually resident in territory detached from Turkey in accordance with the present Treaty, and differing in race from the majority of the population of such territory shall, within two years from the coming into force of the present Treaty, be entitled to opt for the nationality of one of the States in which the majority of the population is of the same race as the person exercising the right to opt, subject to the consent of that State.

ARTICLE 33.

Persons who have exercised the right to opt in accordance with the provisions of Articles 31 and 32 must, within the succeeding twelve months, transfer their place of residence to the State for which they have opted.

They will be entitled to retain their immovable property in the territory of the other State where they had their place of residence before exercising their right to opt.

They may carry with them their movable property of every description. No export or import duties may be imposed upon them in connection with the removal of such property.

Greeks didn't opt for Turkish nationality therefore moved to
Greece, as it was agreed in this Treaty.

Any more Genocide Lies?

Most of the Christians in Turkey opted for their Nations therefore moved out, this is why christian population went down real quick after the Treaty is signed by ALL sides..Because it was part of this treaty.

First, let me remind you that you are a transparant joke.

Second, Turk Mooslems have violated the Lausanne Treaty many times.

If you have a gripe with anyone it should be with your own Mooslem Turk parastate.

Assumptions, always talking without proof, how typical..

And i wonder how can you still come here and talk after you are totally DEBUNKED by a "Solid Proof"..A proof that can be found in these countries archives as they signed it;

"TREATY OF PEACE WITH TURKEY SIGNED AT LAUSANNE
JULY 24, 1923
THE CONVENTION RESPECTING THE REGIME OF THE STRAITS AND OTHER INSTRUMENTS SIGNED AT LAUSANNE

THE BRITISH EMPIRE, FRANCE, ITALY, JAPAN, GREECE"!", ROUMANIA and the SERB-CROAT-SLOVENE STATE,

of the one part,

and TURKEY,

of the other part

Atheists and Mooslems are just as bad as each other.

As for Hitler, Ataturko and Hitler had a love affair.

Turko Muslims in fact all Mooslems love Hitler.

As for your being an atheist - poor soul. So was Stalin. Lots of mental disorder around here lately.

Can't you read?

"Turk Mooslems have violated the Lausanne Treaty many times."

Since Mooslems are well known for violating anything in their path - it's a part of their ideology - the provisions do not mean anything any more.

Do you remember where I told you to go? Go there. But first do some research and find out about those violations!

Either you have not read the Farewell address or you don't understand what it was driving at. It was NOT an isolationist document though that is how it is portrayed by many.

It primarily was aimed at secessionist thoughts and intended to strength the Union. The warning about involvement in the European power struggles was because of the potential of civil war here because of the willingness of the Jeffersonians to fight for France.

Hamilton (the actual author) and Washington knew that this nation was too weak at that time to get involved in another war. Those days have long passed. And we no longer have the luxury to stand aside while Evil runs rampant.

Still personal attacks? While i am virtual?..

If you have a claim, YOU prove it, you put the proof here. I don't have to prove anything, its YOUR claim..

Getting Paid..I don't know but i really want to ask you this simple question. Why do you post on every forum associated with Turkey, only to say "They killed Christians" without proof, without facts. Question Mark..You got my point right?
