Castro's Cuba Nearing Collapse (Widespread Protests in the Streets!)
The Real Cuba ^ | 7/26/05 | Unknown Dissidents

Posted on 07/26/2005 3:01:26 PM PDT by FormerACLUmember

For the first time in 46 years there was not going to be an outside mass rally to celebrate the 26 of July, the date in 1953 when Castro and a group of his followers attacked the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba. And now the rumors have been officially confirmed. It seems that Castro is afraid to hold a mass rally under the present conditions in the island, where there have been many protests taking place during the last few days. He feels more secure inside a theatre, where no one can get in without an official invitation.

Record heat and power cuts of 12 hours or more a day led to scattered protests, vandalism and rare anti-Castro graffiti this summer, veteran human rights activist Elizardo Sanchez said. Authorities have responded by mobilising rapid deployment brigades of militant supporters to disperse pockets of protest with batons, he and other dissidents said. "I have not seen such widespread discontent in four decades," said Mr Sanchez, head of the Cuban Commission for Human Rights.

"I cannot believe a democratic government would lend to the communist killers."

Well, we could just buy from them, a la PRC.

He killed one of my aunts.

Not to sound morbid, but would you care to tell us about it and the circumstances involved?

I have heard a few while living in Florida from some Cubano neighbors I had there.

I hope that bastard dies by being fed to pigs.

Worst of all, he's been brainwashed by Fidel Castro...

Urging another person to go back to Cuba! Of course, Elian's probably treated like Fidel's adopted son. Sick SOB.

Paging Mr. Spielburg and Mr. Stone ... Please call your 'paradise'

I'm sure their Potemkin Paradise village has plenty of power, AC, and food. They'll probably be there this week-end to confirm.

Members of my family visited Cuba. They brought home photos, though none half so revealing as these! Still, the neglect was there for any eye to see. Buildings crumbling, roads cracking apart. The only autos on the roads were from the 1950s -- pre-Castro!

What jarred me about all this is that I'd seen it before -- in Berlin, Germany, in 1960. I was stationed there before the Wall and could look across into Communist East Berlin and East Germany. There too, the buildings rotted away untouched, as they do in Cuba. Fifteen years after WWII, the rubble from Allied bombs was untouched. Under Communism, everything... just... stops.

The contrast in free West Berlin was amazing. The rubble had long been cleared (the two highest hills in Berlin were rubble heaps). Commerce thrived, lights burned, Berliners had jobs and plans and hope for the future. Night life was lively (to say the least!). East Germans were flooding in despite barbed wire and machine guns at the borders. That, of course, is why East Germany had to build the Wall -- to keep workers from fleeing the "workers' paradise." And when the Wall came down, in 1989, the whole Soviet Empire was doomed and came down soon after.

Castroism will go soon too. When liberty returns to Cuba, the monuments to Che and Fidel will be pulled down, and nothing will remain of Castro's works but bitter memories of evil and injustice and oppression.

God forbid!!!!! We can't have another country go Democratic on Bush's watch!

He's Hitler you know. Jettisoned from the after life straight into a cypress rocking chair in Crawford Texas and on to the White House by the will of the conservative Supreme Court.

Since Bush became president, the taliban are gone, saddam is gone, Khadaffi is neutered, arafat died, osama is hiding in a cave somewhere, fidel is next.

I think things are coming up roses myself.

Castroism will go soon too. When liberty returns to Cuba, the monuments to Che and Fidel will be pulled down, and nothing will remain of Castro's works but bitter memories of evil and injustice and oppression.

And Cuba will finally live up to its enormous economic potential. Given the sheer size of the island there is way more than enough room for growing a long list of tropical agricultural products out of the wazoo, there are plentiful mineral resources to tap on the island, there are hundreds of miles of beaches waiting to be exploited, and you still have enough land left over to save as preserves for highly lucrative eco-tourism. In short, within one generation after the fall of Communism Cuba could become one of the richest countries in all of Latin America, especially since its biggest potential trading partner--the USA--is literally next door!

No property rights in China. HW has ties to Chinese military . How about a malfunction on either side of the Canal? Why are the Chinese so interested in being there? Why is HW (I think its HW) building/built another shipping port in the Caribbean? Why is COSCO, Chinese merchant marine fleet, tagging Evergreen, Taiwan's premier shipping concern? Why are the Chinese in the Straits of Gibraltar? Why has Panama become so Chinese there is Chinese language newspapers there? Stronghold for potential military interests in Carribean, Cuba etc., chokehold on Panama Canal. Sorry so random, but these are questions that go begging when thinking about Chinese activities 90 miles off our shore and on our former Canal Zone. Oh, yeah, and they bought up the land where our former Southern Command post was in Panama. Really, what do you think? I'm just a gal from CA.
