Nope, they had ICBMs with thermonuclear weapons in the early 80s with the range to reach the Continental US. The overwhelming majority of their weapons are Russian, and the rest of the tech is primarily French and Israeli.

Incorrect. Russia is the world's largest or 2nd largest oil exporter. Russia *competes* with Middle-Eastern oil exports. Killing a Russian competitor wouldn't even make the Kremlin brass cry.

Not surprisingly, considering the stupidity of people that fantasize about such things, as we've seen earlier in this thread, it's impossible to nuke the world's Moslems without killing tens of millions of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. The world's Islamic population doesn't live completely concentrated in small areas isolated so that fallout doesn't reach anyone else. You've got millions of Armenians in the middle of the Turks and assorted Moslem former Soviet Republics; you've got millions of Christians in Lebanon; you've got millions of Christians scattered throughout Indonesia. The second largest Muslim population in the world is in India, scattered amidst a vast sea of Hindus, hundreds of thousands of Christians, etc.

OK, so it looks like this threat of 70 nukes going off at once in the US is the stuff of tin foil.

But, a terrorist nuke attack of some kind is certainly plausible and could occur as your expert boss makes clear.

When AQ attacked Madrid, the experts were shocked because no one had any idea they were operating in Spain. (I was one mile from where the bombs went off in Madrid.) Isn't surprise a basic element of war?

My main point is that your expert boss friend seems to say that they could make nuke on their own without buying them from the former Soviets. I find this line scary -- it means that even your experts fears that the threat of nuclear terrorism is cause for serious concern:

They would never stock pile such a device both because of the maintenance issues and because every day that goes by is another day it could be discovered and rendered useless. In other words, it is far to valuable for them to take the risk of losing it before detonating it.

I wonder exactly what an FBI consultant means? Does this really give the man credibility? If the FBI hired him to give them advice on something once, how do we know this is an on going relationship or related to terrorism at all?
The man's degree or area of expertise or publishing record or peer reviewed articles and such are not mentioned. Only that the FBI supposedly "consulted" with him. Do we know if this consulting was even paid?

If that line is the best he can give, then we can wonder if he is just a dude who can write who thinks that he can make some money selling books.

Not that I don't think it is possible that AQ could nuke us. That is a real possibility and the only way that Osama can make good on his promise to slay the Jumbo Satan (us).

There missile technology was not capable of accurately targeting us until Clinton gave it to them. They had nukes. Just couldn't get them here.
