T.H. - Karl Rove's forked tongue proves he's a snake
Lewiston Morning Tribune ^ | 7/21/05 | Tom Henderson

Posted on 07/24/2005 7:21:08 PM PDT by RadicalSon2

No matter how you spin it, Karl Rove is a snake.

He opened his mouth when he should have kept it shut. A lot of people do that. Rove, however, did it for revenge.

Bush supporters can split more hairs than Bill Clinton. One essential fact remains indisputable. Rove's forked tongue lashed out at a political critic.

And he did it secretly.

He also dodged responsibility for it as long as he could.

What a snake!

A full and thorough investigation will determine if he's a common garter snake or a deadly cottonmouth, but his own confessions have him slithering on the ground.

Back in 2002, a number of people in the CIA questioned administration claims that Saddam Hussein tried to acquire uranium from Niger.

Agent Valerie Plame suggested her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson, go to Africa and investigate. He had experience in Middle Eastern and African diplomacy.

When Wilson returned, he reported the administration was full of hot air. That didn't stop Bush from repeating the claim in his 2003 State of the Union address.

In turn, Wilson wrote a piece for the New York Times. It appeared July 3, 2004. A week later, syndicated columnist and really mean man Robert Novak outed Plame as a CIA agent. Who told Novak about Plame?

Not Rove. He claims he got his information from Novak, not the other way around.

However, it was too juicy a piece of gossip to keep to himself. Before Novak's column came out, Rove talked with Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper.

Without naming names, Rove told Cooper that Wilson's wife worked at the CIA and was responsible for the trip to Africa.

Rove is the White House deputy chief of staff. He knows better. By his own admission, he said too much.

He deserves the hot water he finds himself in. With any luck, he'll soon have company in the person who leaked the information to Novak.

Chief among the suspects is Lewis Libby, chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney.

Cooper, Novak and the New York Times' Judith Miller (doing time for refusing to reveal her source) are by no means pure in their roles in this slimy game of Gotcha.

Miller, at least, accepts the consequences of her action. She evaded nothing. She willingly went to jail because she recognized the higher principles involved.

Can the same be said of Rove? -- T.H.

My area votes Republican/conservative,but our paper was taken over some years ago by new owners and a new editor and has been a commie liberal pink mullet wrapper ever since. We cancelled a couple of years ago. I think all the new people, from out of the state to work in the casinos, must be their primary source of subscribers, except for the few remaining old-timers left who still buy it for the obituaries. They'll all be gone soon.

Thankfully, there must be something in the air here-the "new people" must get converted after moving here, because we're still predominately Republican and conservative.

Is that really true, that it was really said in court? If so, it would be even more delicious.

That actually occurred in a deposition.

Fellow I know is a court reporter - used to write a column in one of the legal rags called "Great Moments in Deposition History." He eventually published a book.

There are some real screamers in that book. Most lawyers have similar stories, crazy stuff happens every day. Usually because lawyers forget the maxim, "Don't ask a question you don't already know the answer to."

That didn't stop Bush from repeating the claim in his 2003 State of the Union address.

Bush mentioned in his 2003 State of the Union address that British Intelligence had made that claim, a claim which the Brits stand by to this day.

So.... Is Henderson a pathological liar or simply a clueless incompetent? I am going with "clueless incompetent" based on this line:

"And he did it secretly."

No serious columnist uses lazy, utterly meaningless phrases like that one, especially to describe a White House advisor's act of taking phone calls from reporters. And Rove was even kind enough to warn one reporter (Cooper) to be wary of (Kerry operative) Joe Wilson's story!

It has now been known for over a year that Wilson is a brazen liar with a political agenda, but Henderson proceeds as if he hasn't heard about it yet. Yeah - - I'm going with Henderson as a clueless incompetent.

Ahem, he actually said that Plame was the reason for Wilson going to Niger. Meaning that this idiot is calling Wilson a LIAR! Wilson claimed he was sent by the VP.

Geez, I thought that must be Lewiston, Maine when I saw that. Idaho is about as red a state as there is, ain't it? You folks shouldn't have to put up with that kind of crap.

Sounds like the liberalism of Washington has spilled over into the good state of Idaho...

Sure doesn't sound like Idaho. This idiot must be trying out for the slime big leagues - NYT, WaPo, Seattle Red Star, LAT, etc.

"I have an old Three Stooges tape called, 'Disorder in the Court'."

Sadly, it is most likely representative of the court in many jurisdictions today.

" A week later, syndicated columnist and really mean man Robert Novak "

Thomasina Henderson is obviously submitting her homework assignment for summer school remedial reading .
She's probably no more than 14 years old.
Maybe we should cut her a break.

And here I always thought liberals hated nepotism; guess I was wrong.

Actually, same thing, just quicker. Most John Q Publics don't have access to top level law firms and this dance of the seven veils about reporter priviledge, which simply does not exist at Fed level. Some states grant a form of it, but if a federal judge asks for a response, you can: answer; plead the Fifth perjuriously; commit direct perjury; or keep silent and sit in jail for the life of the grand jury, usually about six months.
