YUMA, Ariz. - Construction crews are expected to begin building a reinforced concrete barrier along sections of the U.S.-Mexico border next month.
The barrier is designed to stop immigrant smugglers, drug traffickers and other illegal traffic from driving across the border. The barrier will eventually cover 123 miles from San Luis to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument south of Ajo.
"Not only will it enhance our ability to gain greater control of the border, but it is a proactive effort to protect the environment, habitat and (protect) against the ravages of narcotics and alien smuggling vehicles," said Joe Brigman, a spokesman for the Yuma sector of the U.S. Border Patrol.

Not necessarily. This will help stem the flow. Once the flow is dealt with, we can work on assimilating those already here.
Can't really see how this will help. They drive up to the border and the illegals hop over the barrier. I believe they will be putting up are the type that are used for existing median, less than 4 feet high.

Well, anything is better than nothing. If this slows the flood of illegal at all, I'm in favor of it. However, my preferred method is still to put the US military on the border. I think that would stop the flood very quickly and effectively.
And, of course, the arrest and deportment of all illegals.
You can try deporting about 30 million people. I think you'll find it quite difficult. And grossly immoral. And it brings back shades of the Nazis.
For better or worse, assimilating is a stronger option. A wall will help slow, if not stop, the rate of illegal immigration as well.
They may mean a) illegal according to 'international' law, which is non-existent but some leftist moonbats like to refer to anyways b) specific state statutes, which is entirely possible c) you'd need considerable public support for something like this.

Disagree. We should "assimilate" those who are here legally, and DEPORT those who are here illegally. Slowing the influx accomplishes nothing unless we also deport those who "do" get in.
I guess we should just forget it - if nothing happens, everyone carps; if something happens, everyone carps. Short of building a time machine and going back about 60 years to change everything, there is no way anyone will be satisfied. Some of the carpers are sounding a lot like the Dims and MSM - never satisfied and no truly workable replacement plan.
It may not stimulate the economy down there as much as the Big Dig has for New England, but at least it concludes the immigration issue and we can move on to other things such as tort reform.
