State's rights. There was nothing prohibiting any of the states from deciding to have a "state religion". Many of the various states still have "blue laws" on their books which are no longer enforced. The people in the states decide those matters. That's a whole different ballgame that to have one big centralized "FEDERAL" government attempting to dictate a one size fits all particular "religion".
The biblical worldview is the ONLY worldview wherein "all men are created with equal authority" and their rights are inalienable (can never be taken away) because they are given to them by God.
Every other worldview has one or more men in charge of granting any rights and freedoms that their "subjects" (in the world of religious and/or secular governments) are permitted to enjoy.
The original 13 states were "ordered" to draw up state constitutions before the Federal Constitution came into being. In general, they contain the same rights set forth in the Bill of Rights. The Federal Bill of Rights came into being so that both new and old states would have certain rights. There is a site called Avalon...something. It has all the original State Constitutions. I believe Massachusetts is closest in wording to the Fed Bill of Rights.
