At my sister's graduation in May, they had everyone sing all the verses of America The Beautiful during the graduation ceremonies. I was okay until we got to that verse. Then the tears just wouldn't stop. I think people around must have thought I was out my mind.

One of my colleagues, nephews was working in the towers on the 90th floor on 911. He was on the phone to someone in London at the time.

Several days after the towers fell, the London office called the family and told them of the call. He was talking to them. They heard a scream and then the phone went dead.

I think it helped them find some sort of closure because they still have not found any of his remains.

I found this ICM poll on UK opinions after the first bombings. Poll was commissioned by the Guardian, so the questions are predictably slanted. Some things don't slant easily though, and

The poll indicates that 75% of Londoners expect more attacks and that a large majority have no intention of letting it bother them, stop them travelling around London by tube.

A large majority also think preachers inciting hatred should be deported.

I haven't read this whole thread so sorry for butting in. I remembered the John and Ken are going to be doing their radio show from a mosque in San Diego today, 3-7 p.m Pacific coast time (listen live on www.kfi640.com). They had been planning this before today's attacks. They are pretty irreverent and they want to talk live to American Muslims about terrorism. I believe this was the mosque where some of the 9/11 terrorists "worshipped." Should prove interesting.
