What's the big idea? (Bernie Goldberg of Bias fame attacked on air on CNBC by Donny Deutsch)
Wash Times Inside Beltway ^ | 7/20/05 | John McCaslin

Posted on 07/20/2005 11:10:29 AM PDT by Cableguy

Talk about appearing blindfolded before a kangaroo court. Then again, CBS newsman-turned-author Bernard Goldberg might not have recalled before appearing last night on CNBC's "The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch" that the host was a lead member of the Clinton/Gore communications team in 1992. "I've been doing this a long, long time, and I have never, ever, ever, never -- I could say never and ever 10 more times -- experienced what I just went through," Mr. Goldberg told Inside the Beltway late yesterday after he taped the show, which is to air tonight, from Miami. "Deutsch disagreed with everything, and that is just fine," said Mr. Goldberg, the best-selling author of "Bias" who has written the new book "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (And Al Franken is No. 37)." "But then, unbeknownst to me, they brought on a panel of five, plus Donny, all of whom took the other side. And it's not like they just respectfully disagreed; there was name-calling, ganging up; it was unbelievable. And not one of them even read the book. They admitted it. "It was more than an ambush," he said. "It was the most cynical, dishonest thing I have ever been lassoed into. They misled me." Immediately after the taping, Mr. Goldberg said, he told the show's producer, Marilyn Cutler, that Mr. Deutsch had been "dishonest." "I told her that she should be ashamed," he said. "A short time later, she called back, crying like a baby. She said, 'I am resigning.' And I told her, 'You should resign.' It was one big setup. And they used her to get me into it. They wanted to kick my [expletive] on national television -- six people, all basically calling me an idiot."

That Donny Deutch show is really one of the worst CNBC ever came up with - almost as bad as Tina Brown. The guy is an arrogant idiot whose spectrum of ideas is limited to mere entertainment at large. They should just extend Kudlow's show to the PM as they've done with Cramer's since they broke up K&C

I like Goldberg, but this book really seems to be nothing more than a big giant pander to sell books to conservatives. If not, why put Franken in the title?

"Who the foxtrot is Donny Deutsch?"

After watching a few seconds of his show while channel surfing, I couldn't work up enough interest to find out who he was. I just moved on.

This is disgusting behavior on the part of CNBC. The board of directors should fire everyone responsible for this travesty. They have a fiduciary responsibility to stockholders (I'm one) to be good citizens. You don't sell your ethics for ratings.

Us bookaholics will say ANYTHING as an excuse to buy more...

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem ;)

Never mind that, though - it's an excellent book. Go buy it. Really.

I'm not a Hannity fan, but he does that because the other person is not being responsive to the question, or is filibustering.

Those five constitute 83% of Deutsch's entire viewership.

(OK, I confess - I said 83% just to confuse the mathmatically challenged, which includes many liberals and leftists. It's really 80%.)

(Ha, I'm still playing witcha.)

"I hate to say this, but Hannity, on many occasions, bullies and shouts down his "liberal" guests"

The guy who was subbing for Tony Snow today was doing the same thing. I like the way Tony does it. He just lets them rant on, then chuckles at their stupidity.

"they brought on a panel of five, plus Donny
That's more than actually watch the show."

Very true. Here are the cable news ratings from Monday, 7/18 -

10pm: Greta: 2,332,000 / NewsNight: 613,000 / Grace repeat: 485,000 / Scarborough: 239,000 / Deutsch: 115,000 (# of viewers)
Source: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/default.asp

So Greta had 20x the number of viewers as Donny Douche and a repeat of Nancy Grace on HLN drew 4x. Don Douche is a joke!
