BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Journalist Robert Novak's status as a CNN contributor will remain unaffected during a federal probe into the revelation of a CIA officer's identity, executives at the news channel said Sunday.
"I think we're all aware that no one really knows what's going on in the investigation of the Valerie Plame incident," said Jonathan Klein, president of CNN/U.S. "So it would be awfully presumptuous of us to take steps against a guy in his career based on second, third, fourth-hand reporting."
Klein praised Novak as "one of the most outstanding political reporters this country has ever known."
A call to Novak's Washington office seeking comment Sunday was not immediately returned.
In a July 2003 newspaper column, Novak identified Plame, the wife of administration critic and former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson, as a CIA operative.
Wilson has said the leak of his wife's name was an attempt by the administration to discredit him after he challenged its assertion that Iraq's Saddam Hussein was seeking to obtain material from Niger to make nuclear weapons.
Two other reporters connected to the Plame story openly fought the revelation of their sources. Novak has repeatedly refused to comment about his role in the federal investigation.
One reporter, Judith Miller of The New York Times, was jailed for contempt for refusing to cooperate with prosecutors. She gathered material but did not write a story about Plame.
Elber (the author) has written several articles critical about the CBS Reagan movie --- that's about all that your link suggests....but that is more than enough for me.
Not to mention that Novak owns "Capitol Gang" which is probably one of the few shows anybody watches on CNN. (Not me.)
I wish they would look in their files and find another non-story to regurgigate so they don't have to work in the summer. What is Gary Condit doing, now and who killed Chandra? Just a suggestion.
Not anymore. CNN killed it. Too many conservatives on the show, I guess.
Oops. Well, like I said, I never watched it.
Thanks.
Mark Belling, a Milwaukee radio host said he had a national scoop about the Renquist story about a week ago. Renquist *was* going to announce his retirement. He got ticked off that the WH stole his thunder by leaking it, which is why he refused to go through with the announcement.
Belling's info seems to have come from someone with contacts in DC, since he also said Diane Sykes was on the long list of people being considered for the SCOTUS. Renquist & Sykes have ties to the Milwaukee area, which is why there is local interest about both of them.
yep.....I was getting so pissed at Meet the Press this AM when the spin was going and ol' Tim "Potato Head" Russet wouldn't correct the same old statement that Iraq had "Never received yellow cake.....".
Nobody ever said that they were successful in their nukular quest!! Bush's original statement stands --- without any corrections needed. Screw those a-holes.
I miss Capitol Gang :(
Actually, I will make whatever comments I want about a dumb*ss. Mind your own business which seems to be about the same as hers.
Capital Gang is history? Back in the eighties I cut my political teeth watching that and "Crossfire!" which was great when Buchanon and Kinsley were on. The creation of Fox News made CNN irrelevant thank God.

CNN breaks up 'Capital Gang'
In it's place, On the Story will focus on global hotspots and "never-before-seen raw footage, reporter diaries and questions from viewers."
Nice "editing" there, Bonnie.
Pfffffttt, whatever.
Oh, and your lame link doesn't prove a GD thing.
PASS IT ON! A HEAD CORP OFFICER AT CNN ADMITS THAT THERE IS NOT MUCH KNOWN ON THE PLAME STORY!
From the article-
"I think we're all aware that no one really knows what's going on in the investigation of the Valerie Plame incident," said Jonathan Klein, president of CNN/U.S. "So it would be awfully presumptuous of us to take steps against a guy in his career based on second, third, fourth-hand reporting."
Last time I popped it on, everybody was looking pretty tired. Hopefully I'll never have to see/hear Al Hunt again.
KCVL shoots....KCVL SCORES!
A so-called editor (according to her) giving HER OPINION. Big damn deal.
I'm sure that Al and Judi are off enjoying their retirement together, strolling hand in hand on a beach, never to even concern themselves with politics again.....
hehehe
