During the War of 1812, weren't the NE states British-sympathetics, since they were doing most of the trading with Britain? The war was unpopular with the New England states, but to call them sympathetic with the British might be a bit strong. The U.S. Navy and a large number of privateers operated openly out of New York and Boston and Newport.
