A team of Senate and House Democrats today are planning to introduce legislation today aimed at significantly increasing size of the U.S. Army.
Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.), ranking member of the Senate Armed Services (SASC) airland subcommittee, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), a SASC member, and Reps. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calif.) and Mark Udall (D-Colo.), both members of the House Armed Services committee, are pressing for the passage of the United States Army Relief Act.
The legislation seeks to raise the cap of the Army’s end strength, said an aide to Tauscher.

Hillary may be many things but stupid she ain't.
However hard she tries, not even Darth Rodham Clinton can be wrong about every issue every time.
People in the military do not have short memories when it comes to the way the Toons treated them. She may end up having to look for a hell of a lot more than 80,000 troops if she ever winds up in the White House.

We should have a Democratic Division, that pays minimum wage or less, and consists of draftees, openly serving homosexuals, and sundry affirmative action cases. Then the rest of the Army wouldn't have to worry about the usual Democrat initiatives. That should be the division sent to respond to UN peacekeeping initiatives.
So they scream for a pull-out date, and now they decide if they can't leave, they'l draft 80,000 people to join them???
The dims are getting smarter.. I bet the next thing they will push for in the military is higher pay and benefits.. Even as they have to grit their teeth as they say it each time.

I've seen the ad once or twice and kept meaning to post something - - I had exactly the same thoughts as you - - they're trying to prepare the American public and have them get accustomed to a woman CIC - of course, she'll be very bright, strong, decisive, etc. and handle every emergency perfectly as well as 'unite the country' Bleahhhhhhhh (unless of course, it was Condi :-)
The army can't attract enough recruits to maintain the troop levels that they already have. Where is she going to find an extra 80,000 warm bodies?
The national guard has been overused to take Iraq. I would say we need more troops or we need to pull some from Germany and Korea and anywhere else so the national guard will be here in a emergency.
She can't even keep up with her own B.S. anymore.

The shortfall appears to be mostly in the reserves. The re-enlistment rate in the active army is doing very well.
They are two distinct branches of the army with distinct menbership needs/desires. When the army was downsized, it wasn't because of lack of men wanting to be in it, it was for economic reasons. We can still draw enough for a larger ACTIVE army if it would be authorized.
Since we are at or near the maximun ACTIVE authorization, we have to draw on the reserves to fill the shortfall, and those in the reserves for the most part want to keep their civilian jobs, homes, and families and not be away where they lose so much.
That's simple! She's gonna send military recruiters to all the high schools and colleges in the country. With a personal note from Hillary saying it's OK . . .

From where? The army is missing it's recruiting requirements for the size it has now.
