ARTICLE SNIPPET: "TBILISI, Georgia (AP) - Georgian police working with the FBI discovered dangerous substances in the house of the suspect who admitted throwing a live grenade toward President Bush at a rally in Tbilisi in May, officials said Wednesday.
Sergo Dzagnidze, chief of the criminal police department at the Interior Ministry, told The Associated Press that 5 gallons of sulfuric acid, several boxes of mercury thermometers, a centrifuge, a microscope and other devices and dangerous chemicals were found in the cellar.
The suspect, Vladimir Arutyunian, was detained last week after a police shootout.
He was charged Tuesday with terrorism over the grenade attack, in addition to earlier charges of killing a police officer in the shootout and illegal possession of weapons.
``The dangerous substances found in the cellar of Arutyunian show that he posed a risk and had a big potential for carrying out terrorist acts,'' General-Prosecutor Zurab Adeishvili said."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "CAIRO, July 29, 2005 (IslamOnline.net) – Iraqi resistance factions are mulling the formation of a "political bureau" to speak in their name and engage in any future negotiations with the US occupation forces, revealed a well-kept Iraqi source close to the Iraqi resistance.
"The Iraqi resistance groups will soon unveil a political bureau to speak in their name in any potential future negotiations with the US occupation forces or any other party," the source told IslamOnline.net Thursday, July 29.
"The formation of this bureau is currently under way and will be announced within weeks," the source said, maintaining that the nascent bureau will operate in the first stage in a "secretly fashion".
"This will block the road on those who claim to speak on behalf of the Iraqi resistance groups or in their name."
The source added that prominent resistance groups as the Islamic Army in Iraq, the army of Ansarul Sunnah and the Mujahideen Army will join the new political bureau.
"It is natural that all resistance groups, which carry out major resistance attacks against the occupation force, will take part in one political body."
Two Iraqi resistance groups, the Islamic Army in Iraq and the Mujahideen Army, appointed on July 3, an official spokesman to speak in their name, in a bid to "silence all those who claim to speak in the name of Mujahideen"."

TURKMENISTAN POLICE BEAT BAPTIST WITH BIBLE AND THREATEN TO HANG HER

TURKMENISTAN (ANS) -- Police in a Turkmenistan city raided a Bible study taking place in a private home, beat the host with her Bible and even threatened to hang her.
Turkmenistan is located in Central Asia, bordering the Caspian Sea, between Iran and Kazakhstan (www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/tx.html).
Local Baptists from the city of Turkmenabad, who meet together regularly at the house for prayer and Bible study, alerted Forum 18 News to the situation on July 23.
Asiya Zasedatelevaya has now appealed for the return of all the Christian literature that authorities confiscated from her, Forum 18 reported. She said there is a great need for it.
Forum 18 reported that the news organization was unable to reach the city police chief to ask him the reason for the raid, confiscation and reported threats.
According to Forum 18, Zasedatelevaya said that three men burst into her apartment on the evening of July 19, two of them in civilian clothes, accompanied by the local police captain in uniform.
“Without identifying themselves or showing authorization for a search they pushed me away from the door and began a search,” Zasedatelevaya told Forum 18. She said that while the police took away all her religious literature and a Russian dictionary, they failed to give her a receipt for the confiscated items.
“Then they started to interrogate me, despite the fact that I’m ... unable to hear and speak,” Forum 18 reported Zasedatelevaya said.
According to Forum 18, Zasedatelevaya said that when she refused to disclose where she had got her Christian books, one of the plain clothes men hit her over the head with her Bible, while the second hit her in the face. “The local policeman threatened to hang me,” she added. “During all this my four-year-old child was present in the flat (apartment).”
Forum 18 reported that Zasedatelevaya was then taken to the police station, where another local policeman, Durliev (first name unknown), claimed neighbors had written a statement reporting that meetings lasting two to three hours were held in her apartment.
Zasedatelevaya told Forum 18 that she regularly hosts meetings of between ten and fifteen local Baptists in her apartment each week “to study the Word of God.”
In addition to asking that her confiscated literature be returned, Zasedatelevaya also demanded that officials stop harassing people wanting to meet privately for Bible study.
According to Forum 18, Zasedatelevaya’s Baptist congregation belongs to the Baptist Council of Churches, whose congregations refuse on principle to register with the state authorities in post-Soviet countries.
Forum 18 reported that members of another Baptist congregation in Turkmenabad, who belong to the nationally-registered Baptist Union, were fined in March and two families were evicted from their hostels in punishment for meeting for worship, despite being part of a registered church. The police described the worship as “illegal,” and stated that it would be better for the Baptists to follow Islam (see www.forum18.org/Archive.php?article_id=535).
The activity of registered communities remains restricted, Forum 18 reported, with officials insisting that no religious meetings can be held in private homes. According to Forum 18, “registered congregations are pressured to subscribe to the blasphemous cult of personality around the country's president, Saparmurat Niyazov” (see www.forum18.org/Archive.php?article_id=522).
Since Niyazov issued his July 1 call for the country to adopt one set of religious rites, stating that “we have one religion and unique traditions and customs, and there is no need for people to look beyond these” (see www.forum18.org/Archive.php?article_id=614), Forum 18 said that Deutsche Welle has reported increased pressure on religious minorities.
According to Forum 18, the radio station said that local authorities had warned Hare Krishna devotees in the Mary region not to meet for religious rites in private homes. Officials reportedly forced them to sign statements that they would only hold meetings in places, specially provided for religious purposes, such as buildings rented from state institutions, houses of culture, clubs and cafes. However, Forum 18 reported local sources told Deutsche Welle that directors of organizations and “houses of culture” either refuse to rent out their premises, or demand such high fees that they are unaffordable.
One director of a government-owned house of culture in the capital city of Ashgabad told radio station Deutsche Welle, Forum 18 reported, that the city authorities had warned him and fellow directors in the city that providing a building for religious minorities is “unacceptable.”
An official of the Interior Ministry also reportedly told the radio station that the move was prompted by Niyazov's recent pronouncement on religious issues, which was shown on television.
One Hare Krishna devotee told Deutsche Welle, Forum 18 reported, that law-enforcement officers began visiting devotees’ homes immediately after the speech. “They took signatures on statements that we would not violate Niyazov's instruction on the ban on holding meetings in homes. And although we are registered with the Justice Ministry, we are banned from meeting even in the place we are registered.”
The Hare Krishna devotee said that Protestants in Mary, Iolotan, Murgab and Turkmenabad had reported similar treatment.
“All our believers are on file at the State Security Ministry secret police and we are treated as though we have a criminal record,” Forum 18 reported the devotee told Deutsche Welle. “They will not register any business activity in our names; we are banned from explaining our ideas to our fellow citizens, and believers are practically banned from meeting together. It is terrible, but despite this, people don't lose hope and wait for help from God.”
Hare Krishna devotees are an officially registered religious community, and other registered communities, such as Baptists, Seventh day Adventists, and Pentecostals, also face strong official pressure and restrictions, Forum 18 reported, as do the unregistered - and de facto illegal - communities.

This Public Announcement is being updated to remind U.S. citizens of the continuing threat of terrorist actions and anti-American violence against U.S. citizens and interests overseas. This supersedes the Worldwide Caution dated September 10, 2004 and expires on September 7, 2005.
The Department of State is deeply concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens and interests abroad, as well as the potential for demonstrations and violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas. U.S. citizens are reminded that demonstrations and rioting can occur at any time. In reaction to the execution of hostages in Iraq, there have been demonstrations and associated violence in the hostages' country of origin. While Americans are generally not the targets in such incidents, U.S. citizens could be caught up in the violence. U.S. citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. Please refer to A Safe Trip Abroad.
The Department of State remains concerned by indications that al-Qaida and affiliated groups continue to prepare to strike U.S. interests abroad. Al-Qaida and its associated organizations have struck in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Future al-Qaida attacks could possibly involve non-conventional weapons such as chemical or biological agents as well as conventional weapons of terror, to include explosive devices.
Terrorist actions may include, but are not limited to assassinations, hijackings, bombings or kidnappings. These may involve aviation and other transportation and maritime interests. Terrorists do not distinguish between official and civilian targets. These may include facilities where U.S. citizens and other foreigners congregate or visit, including residential areas, business offices, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools, hotels and public areas. U.S. citizens are encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.
U.S. Government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or suspend public services from time to time to assess their security posture. In those instances, U.S. embassies and consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. Americans abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Calls to deport 'the voice of al-Qa'eda':
A London-based supporter of Osama bin Laden who runs a website depicting beheadings and suicide bombings in Iraq has forfeited his right to asylum in the country and should be deported, MPs said last night.
Mohammed al-Massari was shown on a BBC documentary earlier this week defending the jihadist messages placed on the Tajdeed site that he runs.
It includes a film of a suicide bomber killing three British soldiers in Iraq, the murder of American civilian contractors and a self-help guide for would-be terrorists.
Al-Massari, a Saudi academic and dissident who fled to Britain more than 10 years ago, has been given permanent residency in this country after unsuccessful attempts by the last Tory government to remove him.
After the July 7 bombings in London, Charles Clarke, the Home Secretary, said refugees who condoned violence or fomented hatred of the West would face deportation. However, there has been no move against al-Massari.
Patrick Mercer, the Tory spokesman on homeland security, said last night it was ''absolutely extraordinary'' that al-Massari could continue to support the jihadist cause without any action by the authorities.
''I see no reason whatsoever why we continue to extend this man's right to stay in the country,'' he said.
''He has got to be dealt with. In any climate his comments are inflammatory; at the moment they are extraordinarily dangerous.''

U.S. Suspends Travel for Soldiers In Saudi

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- U.S. Central Command has suspended non-essential travel for American soldiers based in Saudi Arabia.
Officials said the decision was taken amid information that Al Qaida has planned an attack in the Saudi kingdom. They said Al Qaida has sought to target Westerners, particularly Americans, to demonstrate that the movement remained a threat amid Saudi counter-insurgency efforts.
"The American Embassy in Riyad advises all American citizens living in Saudi Arabia that, in response to continued indications of operational planning for a terrorist attack or attacks in the kingdom, U.S. military personnel stationed in Saudi Arabia have been instructed to suspend all non-duty related leisure travel outside of their work or housing stations," a July 25 warden message by the U.S. embassy said.

Four women shot, killed in Sinaloa(Mexico)

MEXICO CITY — Gunmen with assault rifles attacked a pickup carrying four women — two of them pregnant — in the northwestern Mexican state of Sinaloa, killing all four in another episode of what authorities consider drug-related violence.
The women died in a hail of gunfire outside the small town of Leyva, said officials, adding that the crime followed a pattern of the narcotics-smuggling gangs disputing routes and turf in the region.
Sinaloa is one of the main staging areas of the cartel headed by the fugitive Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, considered Mexico's most powerful drug lord.
Last month, army troops arrested Miguel Angel Guzman, a brother of El Chapo, as part of a new official push against organized crime.
El Chapo escaped from a maximum-security prison in January 2001.
