There is no longer any question that top presidential adviser Karl Rove is a key player in the Valerie Plame case.
[ snip ]
But let's look at what we can conclude from all this:
· The latest news reports indicate that Rove is the source who Cooper was trying to protect until last week -- and that Rove tipped Cooper about Plame three days before Robert Novak published his now-famous column exposing Plame's identity.
[ snip ]
· Rove and his lawyer's denials that he was involved in telling reporters about Plame now appear to be at best based on Clintonian hairsplitting about whether he literally used her name and identified her as covert or he simply described her as the CIA-employed wife of Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, the administration critic that White House was eager to discredit at the time.
· President Bush and press secretary Scott McClellan's denials that Rove was involved in the Plame matter now appear to be at best based on the position that their responses to broad questions about Rove and Plame were met with narrowly constructed responses specifically about whether Rove leaked "classified information." Or is it possible Rove lied to them?

If Karl Rove, Bush's top political strategist, longtime friend and deputy chief of staff is actually indicted by Fitzgerald -- which now appears to be a possibility -- it would be an enormous blow to Bush's second term. Until Fitzgerald wraps up his highly secretive investigation, however, that's all just speculation.
So let's ask ourselves some more practical questions instead:
· Does Rove's current position pass the smell test?

It's not Rove, it's Scooter Libby. JMHO.
I agree w/ you. The court of "public opinion" (ie. MSM) - will convict Rove but the court of law will not.
This is a non-issue. Breathlessly reporting the details in an effort to make it seem like Watergate only makes the news media look petty and stupid.
Ambitious people trying to make a name for themselves by linking the Bush Admin. DemoncRAT ploy? Absolutely!
They pursue this, they're cutting off all sources from the Whitehouse ever.
Re#3 Yup. Methinks there will be indictments, but not of Administration officials...
Everyone knew in d.c circles that plame was a cia agent and she was the one that sent wilson on the trip.
She wasn't a covert agent.
Rove was just defusing the lie that the cia or white house had sent plame on the trip, it was his wife.
This case is a joke everyone in poilitical circles knew who she was it would be like saying you outed george tenet at the cia, she wasn't a covert agent.
What a waste of time this case is. By the way I don't remember the liberal media going after Sandy Berger.
Actually, what doesn't pass the smell test is the notion Plume was a secret agent working on anything meaningful.
One thing we can conclude is that Rove saved journalist Cooper from going to jail by allowing Cooper to reveal his source. But Froomkin wouldn't concede an honorable motive on Rove's part.
Let's see, Plame was common knowledge with Washington reporters and they have to prove that Rove knew that she was an undercover agent, not that she simply worked for the CIA in order for there to have been a crime.
Not likely to get very far when it comes down to it.
Always get the possibly hurtful news out yourself, before everybody else. Or, like Hillary, pray that some clever 'enemy' will write a book about you and thereby innoculate you against even the most outrageous of criticisms that might surface once you openly state your intention to become the President of the United States.
Anybody got any proof that Plame was a covert, undercover agent? I haven't seen anything. Like the "Downing Street Memos" created by a Leftist kook, this is just another DemocRAT manufactured "scandal" that isn't going anywhere. Rove never mentioned Plame by name to anybody. No crime. The 'RATS need to try something else.
so did Limbaugh discuss this today???
I thought it was rather odd that Wilson started ranting about Rove at the get-go. But it's obvious why the libs hate Rove. He keeps killing them politically.
>>I agree w/ you. The court of "public opinion" (ie. MSM) - will convict Rove but the court of law will not<<
Fortunately, that court (MSM) has very little power now...
My bet is the jounalists calls someone like Rove after they have the facts and all they want is confirmation ...In short Cooper and Miller and and Novac already knew it before they asked Rove anything
I say to all of them: Sandy Berger, Sandy Berger, Sandy Berger.
