Here's another one from SM. (Just trying to make sure we have the facts for the trolls)

"julia renfroe the "intrepid" reporter from Aruba Today, is the person who says Joran was on the school bus at 6:40 am bright and ready to take exams, which of course he "aced"---all this according to her--she really has a thing for this family, she just oozes it."

" The headmaster at the school on the other hand, said daddyvds drove him to school that am, and that joran was late. This was in the same conversation in which "swimming accident" or "mishap" was mentioned. Of note, the exams were not that day, they did not start until a later day, ending the day before jvds was arrested. Naturally, he was allowed to finish his exams or so it would seem "

It would.....or lying witnesses would do so under penalty of perjury.....the aruban system is nonsense....it may not be a perversion of Dutch Law, but one thing is certain--the sworn oath of office in aruban LE is meaningless.

That is absolutely terrible. I can't believe that those spokespersons for the government in Aruba keep saying what a safe place it is and that there is so little crime.

I would not go there if you paid me. Of course, they would not bother me as I am an older woman. There is something to be said for being a woman of a "certain age."

One of my many trips to Siam was to make contact with someone who might supply teak logs or rough-hewn boards in quantity. @nd day there I found myself in the office of a filipino thai=resident businessman who had some of the last logs available for export, so it went. Imagine my surprise the very next day when an article appeared on the front ppage of the Bangkok Post (the widest read english paper in the country) proclaiming the litigation re export was "over" and exports could begin again. BTW, filip would only ship FOB. So I partied a few days and moved on.

Lots of questions then. If she "hurts their feelings" while she is here in the States, could they actually file a libel/slander suit from Aruba? If so, would they be required to come here for depositions? (need to know so I can make my protest signs to display upoon their arrival) Would they have to be represented by US lawyer? (maybe their attorney can just observe, but not participate)

I ask mainly because I have a very strong sense of right and wrong which, at times, conflicts with the law.

The locals on Bonaire are wonderful decent people. They hate that casinos are opening. And last trip our long time dive master, a local, seemed reluctant to say anything but indicated "big money" was on the island and sort of nodded when I asked about drugs.

The native Bonaireans are the most lovely people.

I'm nearly certain that any occurence here establishes jurisdiction here.....I'm just as nearly certain that no aruban court could could overcome that, esp in a civil matter.

If plaintiff wished to persue their case, they would surely need to produce witnesses.....our Court could issue subpoenas, but its doubtful if they would be enforceable with an unwilling witness in aruba

the bottom line is that Beth's proclamations would stand if they didn't sue.......and the arubans would get their due in terms of bad press about the danger to tourists.....so if they did sue, that would be their motivation, to counter Beth's story......depositions and testimony as I described above would be in order......just imagine all of the tapes of the people involved in the center and periphery of this case that our media has......you can only imagine what the out-takes contain, as well as the edit-outs.

yeh, I'm a schemer, LOL, but this might be the only justice available here.

she returns to the States is (after consultation w/American lawyers) to delebirately and directly slander the known principals (both perp and coverup type) in a big way publicly, thus estanlishing American jurisdiction in any resulting case.

Good thinking but I doubt they would bite. The island, if it were damaged or slandered as corporate entity, might bite...but they are hiding so much crime I suspect they would crawl under a rock and wait for the storm to blow over.

But you are definitely thinking outside the bun (er...box) and that is what is going to break this case wide open.

I've never been to any of the islands. I vacation down in the Gulf of Mexico. (typical Southern American that I am) I wonder if your statement applies to most all native islanders, but once the big money, drugs and curruption arrive the "most lovely people" breed dies out.

You're about half right...They care about the tourists' DOLLARS. I listened to the live broadcast from Canal 90 with callers asking Beth questions. It was disgusting to listen to them talk about how wonderful they were and shouldn't she be sorry and when was she going to end this. First of all, she did NOT diparge the Aruban people, she was talking about the Kalpoe boys. Second, only ONE caller showed any sympathy for situation and asked what the Aruban people could do for her. No...I think these people care more about their precious little island's reputation than they do about the tourists who come there. Bring your money and if something bad happens it must be your fault.

Of course they care about the tourist dollars, and I said so myself on this thread (again, context please). In fact, that is incentive to not allow wanton murder and mayhem to be inflicted on tourists. Maybe you have never lived in any popular tourist location, US or abroad. There is a love/hate relationship - need the tourists for economy, don't like all the tourists in the way. Most locals settle for muttering complaints behind tourists backs. I wouldn't judge an entire citizenry on talk radio call in comments, no more than I would judge all Americans (or FReepers certainly) on some of the leap to judgment vitriol on this thread. Frustration with the unsolved nature of the case need not be directed at every Aruban and every person in authority there. It doesn't help and BHT herself knows that - a big reason why she and her lawyer backed off earlier statements that were said (in her lawyer's words not mine) out of emotion not reason.

I don't know. I have been to alot of islands and some felt friendly, full of decent peopple,,Bonaire mostly. But also in Barbados, Cozumel. St Martin didn't feel friendly and the natives were sort of hostile. St Lucia and Guadeloupe were the worst. Aruba was creepy to me. Jamaica had pockets of great people but was scary as heck. Caymens were okay. Cozumel, nice people when you could see them.

We drive around and get off the beaten path. I felt as safe in Bonaire as in my backyard, same in St Martin. We raninto revolutionaries in St Lucia, I mean raving whackjobs. Resentment in alot of places.

The drugs and casinos ruin islands in my opinion.

Salute to you. I would love to see this since it might be the only way we get close to getting any real information about who this whole thing was handled. Probably wil not happen, but I like the idea.
