32% of births in N.J. are to immigrant moms

Nearly one-third of all births in New Jersey in 2002 were to immigrant mothers, the most ever, according to a new study that examines how the massive influx of immigrants is transforming communities and posing new challenges for the nation's education and health care systems.

"We've never been here before," said Steve Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington, D.C., think tank that conducted the study. "We're headed into uncharted territory in terms of the size of the second generation."

In New Jersey, immigrants make up 18 percent of the total population and accounted for 31.9 percent of all births in 2002, the study found. By comparison, just 9.6 percent of babies were born to foreign-born mothers in 1970.

"Blacks and Hispanics continue to have disproportionately high abortion rates. Blacks make up about 14 percent of women age 15 to 44 but account for 32 percent of abortion. Hispanics make up about 13 percent of that age group but account for 20 percent of abortions. Pregnancy rates are historically higher among minority women

What is the abortion rate for White women? And how many children do White women have? You see if every white woman has one abortion but just one child, while every hispanic woman has two abortions but 5 children, there lies the difference

In a country with one man/one vote rule. Those who choose to have but one child and at the same time keep the borders open, may find that combination of choices, to be - surprising.

I don't see why there are so many immigrant-haters here. 99.9% of the posters here had immigrant ancestors. Immigration was what made our country great. My grandmother was an immigrant.

I'd appreciate it if you all stop the immigrant-hating. Now criminals are a different story ... Say what you want about them, but stop smearing all immigrants as criminals.

Did your grandmother sneak into the country? ILLEGAL immigrants ARE criminals. It is not about HATE, either. Don't try that libthink tactic here.

Is the lighting bad, or are you wearing Earth Shoes? ;-)

Wait a minute...The lighting was bad. I do like your shoes.

Please return to the bench -- I've an important question to ask:

Are those 4" or 5" heels?

Okay at the risk of being flamed, look Bayroud may be right, (I cant beleive I said that) we all want to stay in power dont we? Well our President's and Rove's BRILLIANT strategy is to keep the ones who keep voting us in happy.

I didnt "get it" until I read bayroud's homepage here on FR where SHE says :"I've stated my agenda several times. I am a very conservative, loyal Republican and Bush supporter who believes that a small but vocal assortment of individuals and groups with divergent motives and agendas has independently converged to exploit the legitimate issue of immigration reform for their own purposes; and that the avalanche of emotional hysteria created by them is threatening the relationship between Republicans and Hispanic voters; and that unless stopped right now, could keep the Republicans out of the White House for many decades."

Hope its ok with you Bayroud after all its on your homepage for all to read.

Thing is folks, she is right in that we do have to keep the voters happy. BUT, I too am a voter and I expect to be kept safe and that means the borders too. So question is, how do we keep ALL voters happy? How do we who see open borders as a threat to national security and are voters happy along with the Hispanics?? Oh and I am a bona-fide red state Voter BTW!

Hmmm dilemma Bayroud?

"Hmmm dilemma Bayroud? "

No dilemma. Just do the right thing for America and trust the voters to be able to understand when you explain it to them. That is what President Bush has consistently done.

The problem is the gratuitous insults by special interests with their own agendas, demagogues and professional fund-raisers appealing to fears and prejudices.

A) I'm relieved you ditched the Earth Shoes back in '74

B) Telepathically I can see your new heels...and of course do approve (mmmm) of your "sensible" 3 1/2" heels embellished with black studded straps :-P

I can understand this statistic. Why would anyone who had lived in New Jersey for a while want to bring a child into the world?
