Nearly one-third of all births in New Jersey in 2002 were to immigrant mothers, the most ever, according to a new study that examines how the massive influx of immigrants is transforming communities and posing new challenges for the nation's education and health care systems.
"We've never been here before," said Steve Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington, D.C., think tank that conducted the study. "We're headed into uncharted territory in terms of the size of the second generation."
In New Jersey, immigrants make up 18 percent of the total population and accounted for 31.9 percent of all births in 2002, the study found. By comparison, just 9.6 percent of babies were born to foreign-born mothers in 1970.

Shall we attract and reward them with health care, education and "other" services or shall we deter them with a wall, moat, barbed wire and "other" measures?
Immigrants or ILLEGAL immigrants. Or in a LIEb state is there no difference?
Just shut up and give them your money.
Who are "them?" Are you opposed to all immigrants, all Hispanic immigrants, all illegal immigrants, or only illegal Hispanic immigrants?
There certainly is a difference.
An Indian guy living in a $600K house is Princeton Junction is one thing, but I'm afraid there aren't that many of them.
I am! I am!
My friend is an English as a Second Language (ESL) techer in North Jersey. Boy, does she ever have job security or what?
Well, being that the current state of the law allows LEGAL immigrants to receive the aforementioned services-particularly from the "other" category, it should not be a mystery that "them" refers to criminal aliens.
I have a family member who is a public school teacher in north Jersey. Every single one of her students is present in the U.S. illegaly and none speak English. Imagine being a U.S. citizen or legal resident and having to send your child to that school.
According to the story: 22% legal, 10% illegal.
Since babies born here are automatically US citizens, checks should be made at the time of birth to see if the parents are here legally. If so, fine. If not, deport them. Give them the option of taking the baby with them, and if they chose not to, adopt the babies out to our citizens. That would fix the loophole of illegals having babies and then relying on those babies to get them legal status eventually.
This is good news. It means our nation is replenished by immigrants. Of course, those immigrants need to stay here and teach their kids that communism and socialism is bad. Otherwise if they just leave all the babies here, it won't do much good. They will all turn into brainwashed liberals by the time they reach the age of 25.
Keep sending your Property Taxes---it is nice when someone else pays for it.
Why?
Assuming the accuracy of the immigration numbers, which as the article mentions: "Immigrant advocates in New Jersey said the numbers appeared to be an accurate reflection of the foreign-born population and the second generation."
How can anyone really know the true numbers? I don't believe the census to be accurate as illegals, naturally, would want to avoid such an encounter. How do I know? Illegals tell me.
I would have to have this number checked and re-checked if I were a pol in NJ. Thirty two percent is an amazingly high number, amazingly!
That's very stereotypical, on both ends. Chinatowns were often used as proof that Asians can't assimilate into the US, and I'm sure there are plenty of examples of people from your "other" ethnicities assimilating just fine.
I don't how secure ESL teaching is, I think that California eliminated ESL.
