With the recent shark attacks in Florida, you would think people would be doing everything they can to stay away from the animals, but lots of Florida divers are actually going out with the sole purpose of running into sharks.
Four miles off Jupiter's coast and 80 feet below the surface, a feared species gaining national attention swarms.
Randy Jordan works at the Jupiter Dive Center, "For some reason this summer we have seen more sharks it's unbelievable the amount of sharks we've seen, more than ever before."
Divers noticing this new trend are making their way closer to area reefs for a thrill.
Experts speculate higher breeding and a higher food supply like bait fish are the attractions. But little more is known about why the species consisting of bulls, hammerheads and reefs sharks are flocking, "When you can see shark hammerhead or bull and you can swim, they're more afraid us than you are of them. It's thrilling."
And it's a thrill that has hundreds of South Florida divers dropping in on this rare occurrence, one where up close encounters are common, leaving a lasting impression.
While millions fear them, divers are moving in on them, and in South Florida it is creating a summer stir that has dive trips booked solid.
Yeah, I agree. But we kayak. I don't think sharks would grab anyone out of a kayak, but it does occur to me that in the process of tipping over and trying to get back in you might look yummy to them!

Texas sounds better and better...

Snakes.
And sinkholes, don't forget the sinkholes!
a plague of homeless pedophiles
Moslem science is an oxymoron.
Must be global warming
So now the Crocs keep people from swimming in fresh/brackish water, the sharks from salt water. Is there really any place left to swim in Florida besides swiming pools? On a side note, haven't the shark attacks been gong up since around 2003?
Those divers ought to get out there with a harpoon and eliminate the excess sharks. This is getting ridiculous.
Send some of the meat to me, it's not bad eating.
I've never heard of anyone eating Bull Sharks.
Most Shark tastes like urine as sharks urinate through their skins; Italians, Asians etc. have developed cooking techniques to try to eliminate this, but most Americans don't bother.
The tasty sharks are Mako and Thresher, and these are the ones overwhelmingly targeted by commercial and recreational fishng; however, they're offshore sharks and to my knowledge are essentially never guilty of any attacks on humans.
lol
Euw.
Palmetto bugs.
I was thinking somehow they figured when and where the next boatload of Cubans would capsize. Maybe they are smarter than we thought.
only at the expense of losing decent pizza, chicken wings and Philly cheese steak
Okay, don't eat bull sharks, then. Just kill the MOFO's. I'll eat the edible sharks.
Disabled women being denied water until they die, legally.
Fresh Mako is indeed one tasty fish. Treat them like fresh tuna, just get the fire on the grill real hot with a clean grate, spread some mayonaise, if you want, on the steak, and grill it until it is warm in the middle. Real good eats.
