Florida divers seek out sharks (Seeing more sharks than ever before; 'it's unbelievable')
WISTV ^ | July 4, 2005

With the recent shark attacks in Florida, you would think people would be doing everything they can to stay away from the animals, but lots of Florida divers are actually going out with the sole purpose of running into sharks.

Four miles off Jupiter's coast and 80 feet below the surface, a feared species gaining national attention swarms.

Randy Jordan works at the Jupiter Dive Center, "For some reason this summer we have seen more sharks it's unbelievable the amount of sharks we've seen, more than ever before."

Divers noticing this new trend are making their way closer to area reefs for a thrill.

Experts speculate higher breeding and a higher food supply like bait fish are the attractions. But little more is known about why the species consisting of bulls, hammerheads and reefs sharks are flocking, "When you can see shark hammerhead or bull and you can swim, they're more afraid us than you are of them. It's thrilling."

And it's a thrill that has hundreds of South Florida divers dropping in on this rare occurrence, one where up close encounters are common, leaving a lasting impression.

While millions fear them, divers are moving in on them, and in South Florida it is creating a summer stir that has dive trips booked solid.

I saw sharks all the time diving in the Red Sea. Never had a problem, not even with Tigers.

This is easy. The sharks are just following along the new routes of the slave ships.

It`s Bushs fault, and if Bush tries to stop the sharks from attacking people it will be because he is after oil, and if he keeps the sharks fenced off, liberals will compare the fence to a Nazi concentration camp or a Solviet gulag.

That reminds me of my teen years.

A friend of mine was driving around town burning his tires off and raising hell all over town. He pulled up to me and said "You seen the cops? I'm lookin for em."

Sharks are vermin wherever they are not needed to keep one species or another in check, and should be treated as such.

The main difference is that they are edible vermin.

Notice that no divers were attacked. I feel safer as a diver than I would as a surfer. Surfers look more like yummy seals (especially in a black wetsuit).

Years ago, I was on a raft floating and about half asleep when I heard people yelling. I raised up and they were pointing in my direction. I finally figured they were pointing at this large fin circling around me.

Jesus is not the only one that can walk on water. I found out I could too.
Luckily, there wasn't any problems or injuries, I made it very quickly to the beach.

It's because I moved to Florida....hurricanes, sharks, alligators..... I'm afraid to ask what's next!

Fires? Relatives in FL almost had their house burnt out because a developer was a little too eager to burn off the swamp during the dry season. It did make for an impressive picture in the local paper.

I could also add drug smugglers, boat people, Yankees....

Don't worry Fudd, it's too hot for too long down there for me. Michigan is just like Florida but only during the summer.
