Russian Astrologer Sues NASA Over Comet

MOSCOW (AP) - NASA's mission that sent a space probe smashing into a comet raised more than cosmic dust - it also brought a lawsuit from a Russian astrologer.

Marina Bai has sued the U.S. space agency, claiming the Deep Impact probe that punched a crater into the comet Tempel 1 late Sunday "ruins the natural balance of forces in the universe," the newspaper Izvestia reported Tuesday. A Moscow court has postponed hearings on the case until late July, the paper said.

The probe's comet crash sent up a cloud of debris that scientists hope to examine to learn how the solar system was formed.

Bai is seeking damages totaling 8.7 billion rubles ($300 million) - the approximate equivalent of the mission's cost - for her "moral sufferings," Izvestia said, citing her lawyer Alexander Molokhov. She earlier told the paper that the experiment would "deform her horoscope."

NASA representatives in Russia could not immediately be reached for comment.

Scientists say the crash did not significantly alter the comet's orbit around the sun and said the experiment does not pose any danger to Earth.

At least this one's in Russia. I wonder if any court would even presume jurisdiction over the universe.

Whoaa....When did a Communist Russian Court have the authority to make a ruling over NASA activities, an American tax supported organization? Why could 1 scientists justify filing a claim for this much money? Is this where we are headed with a UN lead World Government?

I didn't even know that the comet season opened - shoot!!!

Are they any good eating or is the plan just to know out all the lights in sky so we can sleep.

FAQ about comet hunting:

-Is it true that a comet tag cost 333 million dollars?
Yes - it is good for as many comets as you can harvest

-How many comets can be taken during the comet season?
No Limit on comet harvest currently there are more comets than is healthy for our solar system so maximum harvest is encouraged.

-Is there a handicapped permit available or stand by space on the space shuttle?
no provisions for handicapped comet hunting are being reviewed at this time - shooting comets from a moving space shuttle is not allowed.

- Can you use a Lazar beam to blast a comet? Yes a Lazar beam is legal however you must first take a Lazar beam safety course prior to hunting comets with a Lazar.

-Will bagging a comet screw up my "sign"?
No there is no evidence that your astrological sign with change if you or anyone else bags a comet.

Note: A Russian court ruling is expected soon, it is possible that harvesting a comet will change the universal balance. If so everyones "signs" will change a NASA Official reports - NASA is very nervous about the outcome - saying "we really count on the horoscope in our daily processing - to think that one day your a Taurus and the next a Gemini it is really spooky".

Just a question to better minds than my own. If she was able to predict the future by means of astrology, why didn't she see this coming?

My first thought. But with all the cooperation over the space station and such, I suppose there would be some there.

If this person claims ownership of the comet, she can no doubt produce the deed and say what the body composition is.

So...she's using astrology charts that were designed using the assumption that the Sun and planets revolve arounfd the Earth, but a fender bender between a comet and a satellite is going to wreck them completly. Yeah, sure...
