As the minority leader of the U.S. Senate, Harry Reid will be power broker of sorts. Friday, Reid went on the record saying he wants the confirmation process to be as free of political warfare as possible.

“Will O'Connor's replacement be a woman? Not necessarily. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg remains on the court, and the Bush administration may be looking to make history with this latest opening -- perhaps selecting a Latino or Asian for the job.”

Ruth Buzzi-Ginsburg... a woman?!

The Dems would acheive collective orgasm should Bush ever nominate a Republican Senator for SCOTUS. One less vote to worry about come filibuster time. No... we want a Justice who will rule on law... not create it.

Reid knows he is in a horrible position. The only way it can get worse for Reid is if W nominates someone that the Senate has already confirmed, like Janice Brown. Then he would, in effect, either vote her in or look like an obstructionist moron.

John Kerry, of course, had to include the word "test" ..in his response, (as if we cared)...

" “This is no small test,” Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said. “The president has the power to unite the country with a nominee who puts the Constitution first, or divide the country and reshape the court with a nominee outside the ideological mainstream.” "

Ried seems to be under the impression that it is he who gets to make the nominations to the Supreme Court.

He's not looking for a fight, my eye. He as much as said that if the President doesn't do his bidding, he's in for a fight.

It will finish off the pro-life movement if Bush nominates Gonzales.

WRONG. Dubya could/should do a recess nomination of Ann Coulter. Get Reid and BoToxer and "Eyebrows" Pelosi to BEG for JRB! Wouldn't that be sweet... LOL

Mike Crapo and Mel Martinez.

Ann is the obvious choice. The hearings would be fun to watch.

This may have been the President's plan all along. Have the GOP moderates get this deal with the Dems, approve the judges and then select one of them for the SC. Brilliant strategery!!

Janice Rogers Brown would be my first pick.

If Bush nominates someone only to avoid a fight... Republicans will suffer at the polls in 2006 and 2008. He's extended his hand numerous times to only have it bitten. NOW is the time to return sanity to the SCOTUS!

Sure he's suggesting Republican Senator's...DUH he wants fewer Republican senators in the Senate. Thus making a Democrat minority.

Hello, Harry. Why would the President think that was a good idea?

Consider the source of the article: KLAS TV in Las Vegas (home state for Reid).

It like deja vu all over again. Little Tommy Dass-Hole used to come off as constructive in interviews in South Dakota.

With great confidence I predict Dingy Harry will violate this oath at the first opportunity.

Look for the GOP to once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
